It can keep you sane. It gives me a break from reality, so yes when life is overwhelming it makes me happy to escape.

Yes, most definitely. I find that reading is a way to escape your normal, everyday life. When I was younger, I would escape into a book and for a time, I was a different person. If written properly, you feel the emotions of the characters and will either cry or laugh out loud.

It does. The ability of a book to grasp my attention strongly and allow me to discover new things as well as love and laugh... Sometimes I just feel like I can't describe that joy!

It depends on the particular book, if it is a book I'm connected to then for sure I will be happier than I was before picking the book to read.

I do not think reading can make you happier but it can surely help you improve your self-esteem and help you overcome loneliness.

"Reading has been shown to put our brains into a pleasurable trance-like state, similar to meditation, and it brings the same health benefits of deep relaxation and inner calm."

...happy trails :)

Reading relieves stress. It can make you happy. in fact it can make you happier. Reading is one of the best but few know this.

For me reading helps to distract me from the harsh realities of life and books are my silent companions when lonely, so reading cheers me up.

I don't think reading makes me happier, but it hypnotizes me only during that moment I am reading. After I am done, and if there was something bothering, I go back to the original state I was in.
