Hi, catch22.

One classic American novel that comes to mind is F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

Almost every main character that I can think of is corrupted by greed. Money is very important to everyone involved if I remember correctly. It's been several years since I've read it though.

If short fiction counts, there's a terrific story by Hamlin Garland called "Under the Lion's Paw".

If you have a while, also try The Octopus by Frank Norris. It's about corruption in the Railroad around the turn of the century.

I'd say Gatsby is a good choice too.

That's all I can get off the top of my head.

Bret Easton Ellis's books deal with wealthy urban kids and society's excesses (most of his books are set during the Reagan era). Less than Zero is one of his best.

If you can widen your search to British novels, I suggest you try "The Corrupted" series by G.F. Newman. All the stories involve corruption and money.

I think with the new technologies these days, a little description of the book on Google and the name will pop up. If you are unable to still find it, one of these AIs may help.

Try "The Great Gatsby"—a classic exploring greed, corruption, and the cost of ambition, with plenty of FUN&FIN gone wrong.
