If it is because I was required to read them that I hated them, I probably would give them another chance. If I just felt like it was not a good book, or one that I hated in my adult life, I would probably not give it a second read.

It depends. If I feel that my interests have changed since I last read the book I might re-read it, but otherwise no.

If the book has a different perspective that I possibly didn't understand the first time I read through it, I would consider giving it another read. However, if it's a book I simply hated because of a "direct" reason like poorly portrayed characters, a sub-quality plot or other technical issues, then I wouldn't bother picking it up again.

It depends on why I hated it or why I didn't finish it. There was one book (Jane Teller's Nothing) for example that after the first chapter I think, I just felt that if I finished the book I would get totally depressed. By that I don't mean like you feel sad because of the end of the story, its not that kind of effect. I mean by almost the verge of depression, psychologically. On the other hand, I really hate not to finish a book, so this was an extreme example. There are books that deserve second chances, because of the age we had to read them. I think there are problems related to the educational system in this matter. If the books students have to read were for there age, or they had some kind of choice, way more children would fall in love with reading.

I think I would give the book a second chance, but it depends on which book it is.

Yes , because when I don't enjoy a book I try and observe why i'm not enjoying the book and often it is because I wasn't fully concentrated on the book. I think when reading there's always room for second chances.

I don't re-read books I didn't like unless it's mandatory. My taste in books hasn't changed over the years.

There are so many awesome books out there. I'm not sure I'd ever bother with a book I hated. According to me, there are too many books and just not enough time.

If I really hated the book, I would not revisit it without some important reason. If I was on the fence about it and there was a reason to question whether I might feel different now, I would consider it and probably try a few chapters and see how that goes. For the most part though, re-reading of books are reserved for your favourites! There are too many books still to be read than to force yourself to read something you don't enjoy.

There a lot of good books I tried reading when I was too young to appreciate them and I've started to re-read them now.

Never! Sometimes I ask this question to myself 'why should I re-read a book that I hate or not?' The answer is (always) 'I shouldn't re-read because you got a long list to buy books and read'.

I wouldn't even go near the book i hated let alone go near it. Why read what I hate when I can get better books to read.

No, I will not waste time that could be used reading a new book or an old favorite on something that I already know I did not like the first time.
