Yee-owch!!
You just have to rephrase the question:

When your house was on fire, what book would you have grabbed if you had the chance?
.

I would save The secret book by Rhonda Byrne. The book helped me to think positively. At times the book has been there for me.

Probably my hardback of the Works of William Shakespeare. My husband and children bought it for my birthday when we were young and poor as church mice.

Still chuckling at the person who replied with 'checkbook' While that may no longer be relevant for most of us, I am grabbing the 'death book' you know the binder with all your account numbers, passwords and ID etc. Maybe I am not quite as much of a book lover as everyone else!

I don't think any book would be worth going in to a burning building! I'd much rather just by it again. However, if I had to choose one, I'd pick Enemy of God by Bernard Cornwell as this is the novel that got me hooked on reading and history.

The illustrated edition of Lord Of The Rings. Present from my sister, and quite cool. It would be my first option for sure.

Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey - I love the book, and I love the cover art on the copy I have. The one I have is out of print now so whenever I see a copy of it I have to buy it. It's sort of like Jerry (played by Mel Gibson) buying copies of Catcher in the Rye in the movie Conspiracy Theory!

I heard this question on a radio talk show: If your house was on fire and you could only save one nonreligious book, what would you save?
It's a tough one for me. I'd love to hear what you guys think. I haven't decided yet.
