Probably my copy of Watership Down. Not that it's my favourite book or anything, it's just the one I'd save.

I will be too busy shoving cats and my dog outside. The books will all go up in flames. I will console myself with the fact that I have many of these books saved in my amazon cloud.

One Hundred Years of Solitude, hands down.

I'm guessing my kindle doesn't count?

Then I would have to go with my journal.

Well, all my e-books are on my laptop and I'd like to save that anyway, regardless of reading material...but this is such a hard question! All of my books come with cherished memories, you know? I guess I'd probably try to save my Harry Potter collection. I've had them for a pretty long time and they are easily my most worn/loved books. I'd save them because of the memories, not necessarily because they're my favorite books right now.

Um... my 1950's Jane Eyre with illustrations by John Huernegarth... they're full-color images, and the pages are gilt-lined, and I have my name on a book plate. My mom had a similar one, but it fell apart. I bought a replacement on eBay for around $6.00, but it fell apart too--that edition wasn't built to last. So I had that one professionally rebound. (Rebinded?) And now it's my favorite book ever!!

So a girl I went to grad school with was actually in a house fire when she was younger and all of her material possessions were destroyed. It made for awkward conversation when someone asked this kind of question once as a kind of ice breaker. Whoops.

Without a doubt my Grandma's leather bound Bible that I have. She was one of the good ones. She ran a homeless shelter and church in our small town and loved everyone. As far as non-religious I'd have to say The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged

You just have to rephrase the question:

When your house was on fire, what book would you have grabbed if you had the chance?
