The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley ( I'd save the first copy I read as I have two copies.)

I would have to grab this edition of "The Lord of the Rings" that I have. Not only is it a beautiful hardcover that's now out of print, but my grandparents gave it to me so it has sentimental value too. Although nabbing "Fahrenheit 451" might have some ironic value!
"The world has been printing books for 450 years, and yet gunpowder still has a wider circulation. Never mind! Printer's ink is the greater explosive: it will win." - Christopher Morley, "The Haunted Bookshop."

Memoirs of a Poor Relation, by Marietta Minnegerode Andrews. It was written by a relative of my great-grandmother's, and it's been long out of print. Though I have another book by her and two more by a different family member, and I'd want to save those as well.

If I could only take one, I don't think I'd bother to save a book that I could just buy another copy of or check out at the library.

Only one? Nonreligious? Sigh. I have my all time faves narrowes down to a dozen, they hold a special place on my nightstand. One huge armload? No? Ok then.

I think the one I would be reading at that point. I hate to leave a book unfinished.

This is such a tough question! I honestly wouldn't worry about the majority of my books (even if I love them), they're basic books and replaceable. If my house were on fire and I could only save one book I would save my copy of "The Wise Man's Fear" that Patrick Rothfuss signed and personalized for me. Not only is it sentimental (my mom purchased it for me while on a trip in Arizona, specifically to have it signed by my favorite author) but it's one of my favorite books and is something that I couldn't replace.

Other books that would be high on my list would be any of my children's books. Those are books that I've had since I was a toddler, were given to me by some of my favorite people, and are books that I love.

Let's just hope if my house burns down I can save more than one book! :)

Oh my God, that is an impossible question! I have no idea...hmm... could be my copy of Pilgrims Progress...or....The Chronicles of Narnia...or Lightning by Dean Koontz. So hard...most likely Lightning, since I only just got it, and I hardly ever see it in bookstores.

I would be extremely pissed about but capable of replacing most of the books in my collection eventually. I'd have to grab my great-grandfather's box set of Lord of the Rings. Which isn't cheating because the volumes are in one box.

Tough question! I would probably grab The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.

Probably Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut or 1984 by Orwell but just to be on the safe side I'd take the copy that's on my Kindle ( with the other thousand or so novels)
