House on fire, can only save book, what would it be?

Post by 09booklover »

I heard this question on a radio talk show: If your house was on fire and you could only save one nonreligious book, what would you save?
It's a tough one for me. I'd love to hear what you guys think. I haven't decided yet.

A favorite of mine is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I think I've read that book a hundred times. Out of my personal library, it's one I would consider a definite keeper.

Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey - I love the book, and I love the cover art on the copy I have. The one I have is out of print now so whenever I see a copy of it I have to buy it. It's sort of like Jerry (played by Mel Gibson) buying copies of Catcher in the Rye in the movie Conspiracy Theory!

hmm... I'd probably save My sister's keeper by Jodi Picoult but if I cannot find it I'll have to settle for Shopaholic and Baby by Sophie Kinsella.

Ye Gods . . . what an impossible question. Uhm . .

Probably my hardback of the Works of William Shakespeare. My husband and children bought it for my birthday when we were young and poor as church mice.

It would definitely be a book I've yet to read. Let's say East of Eden for example
