Self-help books can get you the necessary motivation you need to do something, but that's not a longterm solution. However, there's always that one book that can push you just a little, or immensely, towards where you need to be. Even though most of them repeat the same things over and over using different words and examples, not all are bad.

I like honest self-help books. But most of i have read are whey exaggerated or religious. Books that help me motivated and build good habits are those I eager to get. But I say no for the airy-fairies.

More often self-help books are far from the truth. But I believe that motivations push people to do something. In my opinion self-help books serve as motivational tools.

I don't want to be dismissive about this, because I know there a lot of people out there who do feel like these books help them realign their lives. There is value in there. Personally, these books don't work for me. The authors tend to sound preachy, shouting down from their precipices on how to climb up. My path is and will be different, and that's okay.

It depends... Some self-help books helped me a lot, but there are many of them that are waste of time. It depends on the author. My favorite author of self-help books is Jorge Bucay and I like his approach to this topic.

There's good and bad in every genre and the same applies to self-help books. I'm not a huge fan of them myself, but that could be because I've not yet found the right one to inspire me.

I cannot give a generalized opinion on self-help books as a bunch. I could not even finish reading some of them, but others I've read more than once and found them to be gems. After fantasy books self, self-help books are my go-to self.

I love reading self-help books because they give you a new way of looking at yourself. Instead of being a victim of the unfortunate circumstances you find yourself in, you're a conquering warrior. And instead of life being a gigantic confusing mess, it's something with a structure, something manageable, a ball of clay to mold into whatever you want. Something useful, admirable even.

I love self-help books because when you feel stuck, they remind you of your inner strength and guide you on how to get unstuck. They tend to be based on genuine beliefs gleaned from real-life experiences and supported by research. It's one of the most genuine, most well-meaning book genres to get into.

Self-help books are great but not all of them are helpful. Some authors may not really understand one's perspective and it may really not provide any reasonable solution.

I feel like self help books do a great job explaining issues but don't offer proper solutions. So i usually end up being understood but not knowing how i could help myself in the end.

I love good self-help books! I have gained tremendously from the advantages of views that are distinctly different from my own. Many years ago, I read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, and discovered new ways to see how to work. Also, I read A Whack on the Side of the Head: How You Can Be More Creative by Roger von Oech, and discovered new ways to find more creativity.

Self-help books do not cure everything. They are only as good as the societies that produce them. A vibrant society is intelligent, and compassionate. It generates and shares its best ideas. Self-help books are not really new inventions, but popular discourses on reason and truth.

I read How to Act Like a CEO by D. A. Benton. Chapter two is "See Around Corners". I think that good self-help books help people accomplish the deed. It is important to recognize obstacles and clear them. Vision is necessary to advance. Good self-help books assess people's status, and their advantages. They inform people how to become more successful.

I personally think that self-help books are as vastly different from one another as fiction genres are. Some self-help books are just watered-down mental health basics, while others can provide a lot of useful information to people who don't have access to certain resources. The only self-help books I have personally found useful are ones on financial planning and literacy - stuff we should have been taught in high school, but sadly were not.

Self-help books have become a money making tool, but some of them still hold a great value I think. A few of them got me where I am today and I am thankful for that. It is obvious that nothing will change unless you do, though.

For some time, I had a craze for self-help books. But now, I'm very selective about the books I read in this genre.

Turns out, the intention of a couple of authors is to have their names in the bestsellers list and not to genuinely help readers.

Nedra Tawwab's "Boundaries" is a great book that teaches us about how to set boundaries effectively.
