I feel reading is the closest thing we have to teleportation. It allows us to dissociate for a while without doing an activity that people view as lazy or time-wasting. Books can also broaden your perspective which is so important to understand the world we live in. Knowledge gained is never time wasted. :tiphat:

Reading is a learning experience and a way to escape from the harsh reality that is occurring in the World. As an addict in recovery, it has given me a coping mechanism to relax with and keeps my mind busy. I have a tendency to overthink a lot and reading helps me regulate this.

I think books are a deliberate expression of ideas, thoughts, creativity, and literary work. Reading other people's written words gives me a window into their thought processes and ideas, despite differences in geographical location, time, and reality. It's absolutely amazing.

I like reading the same way someone else likes finding new TV shows to watch. I think there are more varieties and complex storylines that go with reading and finding new books. It is a way to just escape into my own world where my mind will not wander to anything except the storyline.

I have to say that, though I'm not a Narnia fan, I agree with C.S. Lewis when he said "We read to know we are not alone." I find that working to empathise with a character, warts and all, is a beautiful thing, and makes reading a much more valuable experience.

I am proud to say that reading is one of the most pleasurable activities that I do. It doesn't numb you like TV or gadgets, and at the same time, it helps you grow. I am very particular about the type of books that I read. Because once you read a book, it leaves your mind with a certain impression. Now that impression could be so good that it could change your entire life, or it could be so bad that it could give you nightmares. That is why it is important to keep check of what you feed your mind through the medium of books. And reading helps you to get into the "Flow State", which many of you may have heard of. This state is a state of complete productivity without any distractions, and it is a pleasurable state by itself. These are the reasons for my love of reading.
Best regards

1) To escape. I love being transported to another time or place. I love that feeling of seeing or doing or experiencing something different.

2) To see things from a different perspective. I love a book that makes me think and shows me things from other people's perspectives.
100% what I was going to say, but now I don't have to type it out!

When I was young everybody in school was known because they were bright or good in sports. When I started reading novels everyone knew me as the girl that read big novels. I loved that. I also loved the smell of books when I opened them.

It's a form of escaping. It allows me to live more than once.
Also, I believe it helps me to develop the way I speak and write, making me a more rounded person

Reading opens your eyes to another world, sometimes to your inner world as well. It broadens horizons. It makes you dream.
