I don't crack the spine, but I also buy used books that usually have already a cracked one. Sometimes I have to sit or bend my neck in painful positions so I don't need to crack the spine.

You guys are so nifty with your books. In my case almost all of my books are worn out. Because I love reading books at the comfort of any position causing it to get folded in different ways LOL!

It depends on the cost of the book. If it's expensive as hell then, I will do my best to preserve the spine

I'm guilty of this, especially with paperbacks, and then I complain when the pages start to fall out! Oops.

I mean I don't go out of my way to destroy books' spines just for the chaos of it, but I'm also not the most careful person in the world lol and sometimes when I'm too engrossed in reading I might inadvertently bend the spine a little too much and cause a crease the in the middle, without meaning to of course. It's especially easy to make that mistake when you get to the middle of a thick book and the two halves create that natural bend and there's nothing you can really do about it. I try my best to reduce the amount of bending as much as possible though.

No I never crack the spine on books. It's a bad habit because it shortens the life of the book and eventually makes the pages loosen and fall out.

Sometimes we have to do it, right? I don't have a full opinion about it.

Spine-cracking seems unavoidable unintentionally over time. Even the most well-secured books will become soft if you actually read them. Intentional spine-cracking, however, feels like a heinous crime that causes me to wince every time that I see it... I treat my books like family, so the experience is quite unpleasant.

I am extremely careful with my book collection. I even cover some of my books to prevent it from getting messy. I only lend books to people that I know for sure would not crack the spine of my book.

I have tried it once and really wanted for it to work, but I damaged the book. Some of the pages fell out and since then I haven't tried it. I think the binding was bad quality, but I still don't like to risk it.
