My new year's resolution is to actually learn the words I encounter while reading

I keep a list of words I want to learn in a note, as I'm sure most do. Trouble is I rarely come back to them, so oftentimes I'll encounter the same words again but will still just use context to get by unless i'm feeling particularly disciplined.
Since the new year I've been trying to actually learn these words. I've been saving the words in this app called "nodu", and then try to review for a ~10 minutes a day on my commute to work. The app has these quizzes use example sentences instead of just drilling definitions, so it feels more natural than flashcards.
Some of my recent favorites (don't judge the words I don't know):
1. esoteric: obscure, known by only a few
2. laconic: quiet, not speaking a lot
3. ephemeral: feeting; lasting a short time
