Who or what introduced you to reading?

:lol2: Mine started with short stories about my favorite serials at the time. And then came the dreaded test in my class 11. A book review was required, whereas I never read one myself. I made it up, hoping to get at least passing marks.
NOPE. The teacher bashed my paper left, right and center, infront of the whole class, while I was looking for some hole to crawl into. Fortunately, she couldn't remember the name and roll number of that person. I asked forgiveness from her after the class that day, and promised to read plenty of books from that day forth.

My interest in reading started in third grade. I went to a yard sale with my mom and this lady was selling boxes of books for a dime apiece. Since I couldn't afford anything else from the yard sale, I bought the books. They were all Harlequin Romance stories which my mom should have never allowed me to buy, but this was my entry into the world of books. I began reading everything I could from that point forward.

My loving dad. This man literally beat reading into me as they do in African culture when you are being taught a lesson of significance

My mom! My mom has always loved to read and got me a lot of books. And I can remember dreaming of being able to read so I could sit her with on the couch and read too

I have loved storybooks since childhood and have always enjoyed reading. Every now and then, I treat myself to a book as a reward.

My hIgh school English teacher influenced me to read books constantly to learn more about the world and expand my horizons. It also helps that the school library had a good collection of books and the Catholic curriculum in particular encouraged reading.

My mom first sparked my love of reading. I remember sitting in her lap in her rocking chair, feeling her warmth and sweetness as she read to me. Ever since childhood, reading helps me feel that same warmth.

My family! We always would make a trip out of visiting the library growing up- and this is after being read to before bed for years. One thing my parents did that really helped grow my love for reading was letting me bring home as many books as I wanted from the library. I loved going around and getting a huge collection of books. Then, I ended up really finding books I loved and getting hooked. It also helped when my family would all read the same series, which is what happened with the Harry Potter series. It was so fun to have it be a shared experience.

My mom always read to my sister and I ever since we were little. And would make us read when she got tired lol so we were pretty advanced readers in school

They weren’t short children’s picture books either. She was reading us Grimm’s Fairy Tales (the original darker ones) and Madeline Engel novels. It would have been when I was 4 or 5 and my sister was like 3?

I attended a Catholic high school, and we were required to read and do book reports on five books each summer. My sister bought the books for me choosing from the reading list we were given by the school. I read books I would not have chosen for myself, but found I loved many of them. I also began reading many of my sister's books; she is an avid reader still. For me, having to meet the requirement was a good thing.
