Yes, definitely! This will help them not only in the academics area but also outside the classroom.

I'm definitely going to make them read! I think it'll work well if we inculcate reading as a habit instead of forcing them. Maybe first read stories to them in an interesting way?

You can't really force a kid to read without making them hate reading, but you can encourage it and lead by example.

I am an avid reader and I always wanted my children to read. Fortunately my son took to books like fish to water.

I don't think "making" your children read is the way to go about it, they have to decide for themselves. I'd say its pretty likely that they do enjoy reading if its a big part of your life. Reading for me wasn't even a matter of question, my mum used to read out to me and I just naturally took over when I could do it myself. We have a big bookshelf in the hallway and reading is my mums main hobbies so it was pretty clear that I'd be a reader too. I don't even remember starting to read, in my memory I was always reading. But I guess it really depends on the type of person you are... I think some people are just not made for reading, so whatever environment you put them in, they will probably not become readers.

I wouldn't force my kids to read. I would follow in the footsteps of the people who raised me, my Mommy and Auntie M. As far as I can remember they would read to me. They would make the voices for each character and all the silly expressions. We would act out our favorite scenes, usually Dr. Seuss related. I remember going to the Library constantly to find new books for them to read to me. I guess I grew up thinking books were more like Toys in a sense. They were something Mommy, Auntie M and I could all play with together. I want to pass that concept along to my kids. I want them to find their favorites and build memories, the books that will forever be on their bookshelf.

My kids love to read. We never had to prompt them too. They see mom and dad reading and just started doing it. They love to go to thrift stores with us to find bargain books!

I won't force it on them, but I will definitely read to them when they are little and encourage them to read as they get older.

Absolutely. I think that reading can be enjoyable for everyone as long as they find the right book. It's just like finding the perfect tv show or movie, in my opinion.

Absolutely! I would want them to love reading, too. Fewer gadgets and more books.

I won't force them to read. I will read books to them and as they grow up, they will choose whether to keep on with it or not.

I won't force them to read. I will try to involve them during my reading time by reading to them. If they enjoy it, then they will definately love to read on their own.

Yes through inspiration and advice.
If you show your child that nobody can do without reading when they were too young, they would come up with strong will for reading.

I don't think making them read would be a good idea. I definitely encourage my toddler by reading to her every night. She loves it so much, she now wants me to read to her all the time. So encouragement is good. Forcing a child to read, however, I think would be counterintuitive.
