Is a books condition important?

It is better if it is in good condition, but it is not that much a question for me.

If the book is used but is still in good condition, I don't mind buying it. The problem comes in when the book is in a pretty bad shape.

Not really. As long as it does not interfere with my appreciation for the book. I've enjoyed worn out books in the past, but I prefer those in good condition. Maintenance is so much easier.

Yes ! As much as I love reading, I absolutely cannot stomach reading a beaten-up book. I take care of all of my books very dearly, so just reading an old-looking and wrinkly makes me too sad to even try. In fact, I can barely read books that have handwritten marks or notes on them

I sold most of my books because they were Czech versions of English books and I now only read the original versions. After moving to Portugal, I finally decided to start a new collection. At first I wanted all new beautiful hardcovers but I am really starting to see the charm of used books. My bank account likes them too. I also find it makes more sense for me to own a used copy if it's of some older book, published in the past century or older. The downside is that I am becoming addicted to this 1€ used books shop. My shelves will fill fast at this rate.

When you started reading it doesn't matter anymore, but it is important because we will definitely choose a book in a good condition rather than a book in a bad condition.

Second hand books are so fun sometimes you can even find signed copies. I read a biography about Josephine Baker and inside there was a receipt, the original receipt, and the person had bought it in 1992 and here I am reading it in 2020.

Of course it is important, but a good condition is not necessary a new condition. Marks, annotations, hightlights are welcome however scratches, missing pages, bad cover conditions are not. Sometimes I prefer a used book from old times.

On average, I'd say about fifty. It depends on how much free time I have, and on how engaging the book is.

I don’t think the condition is too big a deal unless it’s really bad. I once bought a book from the library and I ended up having to hold it together with a rubber band to stop the pages falling out. That was annoying!
