My spontaneous answer would be that i don't mind the gender of the author, but, afterwards, thinking of my bookcase, I noticed that I actually prefer male authors.

I prefer female authors. I like some male authors, of course, but most of what I've read has been written by females. I don't know why that is, exactly. I suppose because I read a lot of Y/A fiction, I read a lot by female authors. But I like Stephen King as well, and I'm currently reading Maze Runner and loving James Dashner's writing, so, I suppose I like both male and female authors, but I read more by female authors.

It doesn't really matter to me as long as they are good writers

I'd suppose it would be female authors are the ones who take over my collection.

I like both. I actually actively look for both.
If I'm missing reading books by male authors I go looking for some.
Same for women.
This has brought me some awesome reads!
I don't know where I'd be without one or the other.

Omg!
Just ask me...I have some very funny male authors!
Like LOL, ROFL, LMAO!
Anyway
What female authors make you giggle?

Sorry but I just couldn't vote. It's too even for me!

I can hear some wondering if I even enjoy female authors. You bet. ..... I don't like to focus on male versus female, I can't argue your points.

Reading books don't depend upon the author, according to me it all depends on what you are reading. I focus on contents not on auther.

I don't know that I have a conscious preference for any gender of writer. I have more female authors on my bookshelf than male or other. I suppose I prefer reading about female characters and female authors tend to write good female characters more than male authors do. I won't say no to a male author and if the plot of a male authored book is intriguing, I'll read it. It's more about the story than it is about the author.

With a few exceptions I avoid women writers. I also avoid books written by more than one writer with the except of Charles and Caroline Todd.

One of the few things I miss from the U.S. is my reading group. But, the group that worked was all men. There was a corollary group of all women. Generally, we read different books, for different reasons, and with different expectations.

I don't usually notice who the author of a book I'm reading is until I finish the book and go to record it. Most of the books I own though are written by females so I suppose I lean towards female authors subconsciously.

As long as the story is good, it doesn't matter. I thought S. E. Hinton was a man for the longest time, and when I found out she was a she, I couldn't care less.

I'm still leaning toward female writers. I find male writers too long-winded... like they are trying to show off their knowledge of the world instead of just getting on with the story.

I thought I was the only person in the world who avoided books with more than one writer! I don't know why I do it, but for some reason, it just doesn't sit well with me. 8)
