Are You My Mother by Dr. Seuss. I think I was five years old, but it was definitely the first book that I ever read by myself.

I would have to say that my first book that I have ever read was Esperanza rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. It's a pretty strange to book to have as your first read though. Books like "Greens eggs and ham" were always read to me as a child; never did I actually read it. :P :P :P

I can't remember specifically, but it would have been Enid Blyton, I remember loving The Castle of Adventure and then had to read all in the series. So many fond memories growing up with her books :D

The first book I remember reading was 6 by Seuss with my mother. However, the first book I remember reading on my own was the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne.

The first actual novel I read was Permanent Fixture by James Joyce. I found it abandoned at my uncle's place, in another city, where my sister and I moved for better opportunities. I left it there when I moved back and I haven't been able to get my hands on another copy.
