Top Five for a Picnic

Post by Letora »

Spring is right around the corner for me. I've started thinking of what to take with me on a picnic when the weather warms up. My top five tend to be:

1. Fresh Brewed Iced Tea
2. Watermelon
3. Grinders (ham and cheese, or turkey and cheese)
4. Potato Chips
5. Brownies

Though this year I'm going to be trying black bean brownies instead of a box mix.

I'd be interested to know what other people bring on a picnic.

What I pack for a picnic always depends on whether I'm going alone or with my sweetheart. I'm pretty flexible and love to try new things, but my partner is a picky eater after lots of bad food experiences as a child.

So, if my sweetheart and I are going together (this is actually what we did for a number of our first dates):
1. Chilled bottle of wine
2. Crackers
3. Homemade Tuna Spread
4. Homemade Salmon Spread
5. Sliced Cheeses
6. Chocolate covered cherries or a bag of Dove's dark chocolates

Now, if I'm going by myself...
1. Tea or Homemade Lemonade
2. Seedless grapes
3. Sliced Granny Smith Apples and Cheddar Cheese
4. Cold Veggie Sandwich
5. Dried Strawberries with Dark Chocolate Chips
6. A good book... because it's food for the soul.

A couple friends and i will be picnicking next weekend. There is a decent walk so we need to mostly have light foods. Any suggestions?

For crunchy stuff, you could always bring trail mix or chips. If you want to eat as you walk you can bring wraps instead of sandwiches that way they are easier to manage. Mason jar salads are fun to make, they are premixed so you don't have to worry about bringing all the ingredients to put together. You could do premade salads like potato salad or tuna salad as well. Sandwich kabobs are a good twist too, where you put sandwich meat and cheese on a wooden kabob and fresh vegetables like tomatoes and olives. If I am hiking and picnicking I tend to bring a backpack to hold drinks and anything that doesn't need to be kept cool. I hope this helps!
