Something new to cook?

Post by diamonnd »

I want to try cooking something new and tasty to cheer up my family while we are all cooped up indoors. Anyone have a recipe for something new that is tasty and like comfort food?

I am frugal and live on a budget.

A few days ago, I was searching on-line for a good and economical dip. I found the mecca!

one package of softened cream cheese
mixed with
a jar of salsa

Dip away!

I even threw in a can of black beans, which was simply optional.

What do you think?

That sounds really good! I'm definitely going to try that out this weekend.

Pasta is comfort food for me. An easy but incredibly tasty pasta sauce recipe from the late great Marcella Hazan fits the bill. Her recipe for Tomato Sauce with Onion and Butter is from her cookbook "Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking". The recipe is easily found online and is remarkable for the fact it only has 3 ingredients. Tomatoes, butter and onions, that's it. I promise you'll love it!

My husband and I are learning to eat less carbs due to his diabetes and I am loving the Keto Sheet Pan dinners that I am making. Here is a good one:

1 flank steak or cubed steak, cut into strips
Vegetables of your choice - Peppers, onions, mushrooms, and asparagus are the ones I used
Olive oil
Soy sauce
Seasonings - salt, pepper, steak seasoning
Sliced Mozzarella, Havarti, or your favorite cheese

Place the strips of steak onto a sheet pan, lined with parchment paper or sprayed with cooking spray.
Cut vegetables into strips or small pieces and lay at other end of pan.
Season with salt, pepper, steakhouse seasoning, or what seasoning you prefer.
Combine 1/2 cup of soy sauce with 1/2 cup olive oil, in a separate dish, then drizzle over the meats and veggies. ( You can use a little more if needed)
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and place slices of your favorite cheese- ours is Havarti- on the meat and cheese.
Return to oven for another 10 minutes or so until cheese is melted and meat is as done as you want.

Tasty and healthy! I'm definitely adding this to this week's menu. Thanks for the recipe!

This sounds like it would be such an easy dip and I would add black beans as well. I enjoy them a great deal. Thanks for sharing.

I do enjoy a good pasta and I will have to check this out. I personally like to have meat in my sauce, but this does sound delish!

I've never tried making croissants before. Been doing a lot of research to find a good recipe. I found one on a YouTube cooking channel recently. Will be trying it out soon.

How about something quick and simple? For snacking purposes, I often make candied walnuts for my partner and myself! I just throw in enough water to coat the bottom of a pan, add in sufficient sugar (to the point that it no longer dissolves when stirred), then throw in 284 grams or so of walnut pieces!

Apologies for lack of precise measurements, but nowadays when cooking, I never measure.
