Anyone know any good diabetic friendly recipes?

Post by Dionaea08 »

My first post on any of the forums outside of the welcome forum and reviews, so sorry if I'm doing this wrong I am still unsure of how the forums work. My dad is diabetic and we recently had my brother's friend who is also diabetic move in with us. My family is always looking for diabetic friendly recipes and I'm always looking for something new to try cooking or baking.

Since cooking is apart of this forum I thought I'd give it a shot , so if anyone has any good Recipes to recommend please do it would be much appreciated.

Here's one!
All you need is boneless chicken breast, Vegetables like cherry tomatoes, onions; Olive oil, herbs and spices such as oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper.

Now, first of all, cut the chicken and vegetables into bite-sized pieces.
Thread the chicken and vegetables onto skewers.
Brush with a small amount of olive oil and sprinkle with herbs and spices.
Grill until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
Now serve. Viola!
It will help manage blood sugar levels while being delicious, nutritious and easy in making!

developed diabetes at a young age, struggling to manage it due to irregular sleep patterns. Bitter gourd helps lower my sugar levels somewhat. I've noticed the benefits of millets too, as my dad successfully reduced his sugar levels by cutting down on rice, staying active, and incorporating millets into his diet. While his levels have improved more than mine, he still uses insulin for management.

One thing you can always Search is "Keto swaps" for baking or whatever food you're used to eating.

You ofc don't have to commit fully to a Keto diet, (and that's not recommended) but the term is useful because it almost always means low sugar or no sugar.

If you're diabetic I recommend you to have foods containing low glycemic index (GI). This GI score tells how fast our blood sugars are increased when we eat that food. So lesser the score is better. I recommend you try including millet in your diet. Millets have a low glycemic index and are good sources of minerals, proteins etc., So try to include them in your daily dishes as a replacement for rice or oats or wheat. I advise you to start replacing it in small quantities, as they take more time to digest and also a sudden shift in your diet style will give you problems like stomach aches and flatulence.

Quinoa, Sorghum, Foxtail millet, and Finger millet are popular choices these days. You can search online for more recipes according to your diet choices.

Welcome to the forum! Cooking for loved ones with diabetes can be both delicious and nutritious. Here are a few diabetic-friendly recipes that you might find interesting:

Grilled Chicken with Avocado Salsa:

Marinate chicken breasts in olive oil, garlic, and lime juice, then grill until cooked through.
Prepare a salsa with diced avocados, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and a touch of lime juice.
Serve the grilled chicken topped with the avocado salsa. It's a fresh and flavorful dish.
Zucchini Noodles with Pesto and Cherry Tomatoes:

Spiralize zucchini to create "noodles"
Toss the zucchini noodles with homemade or store-bought pesto sauce.
Add halved cherry tomatoes and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
Salmon with Dill Sauce:

Bake or grill salmon fillets until flaky.
Prepare a dill sauce using Greek yogurt, fresh dill, lemon juice, and a touch of honey.
Drizzle the dill sauce over the cooked salmon.
Quinoa and Black Bean Salad:

Cook quinoa and let it cool.
Mix it with black beans, diced bell peppers, corn, and a simple vinaigrette made with olive oil, vinegar, and your choice of seasonings.
This salad is both hearty and healthy.
Sugar-Free Berry Crisp:

Toss your favorite berries with a bit of lemon juice and a sugar substitute.
In a separate bowl, combine oats, almond flour, chopped nuts, and a touch of cinnamon.
Sprinkle the oat mixture over the berries and bake until the topping is golden and the berries are bubbling.
Remember to monitor the carbohydrate content of your dishes when cooking for diabetics, and feel free to adjust ingredients or portion sizes to fit their dietary needs. Cooking for diabetes doesn't mean sacrificing flavor—it's an opportunity to explore new ingredients and cooking techniques that can be both tasty and health-conscious. Enjoy your culinary journey!
