International Cookbooks

My Japanese teacher has recently started collecting recipes for a cookbook she would like to publish, aimed towards foreigners. She wants to be able to teach others about authentic Japanese cuisine, with the goal of one day teaching cooking classes internationally.

How many of you have foreign cookbooks on your shelves? And how many of them do you think are actually authentic, home-style recipes? I for one can barely flip through a "sushi guide" in the bookstore without seeing ingredients that aren't even sold in grocery stores in Japan! Admittedly, some Asian ingredients are hard to come by in America...

I have an AWESOME Caribbean cookbook called Culinaria: The Caribbean. It is about 450 pages of authentic meals from every country in the Caribbean. Organized by country, there are recipes, but there is also history, culture and of course beautiful photography of the food, people and scenery. I highly recommend this book. It is a cookbook, but also a fantastic coffee table book...more of an encyclopedia of Caribbean food.

I loved Emeril Lagasse's Italian eats. I know it's not anywhere near recent but I happened upon it lately and was very pleased with what I read

I'd never heard of Nigela Lawson until you mentioned her! It's too bad it's nearing midnight here... after I looked at her website, I got so hungry! :lol2:
