Have you tried butter beer? Was it at all what you expected?

I recently took a trip to Universal Studios and I just had to try butter beer. It's one of the few foods from books that I've had a chance to try. I had heard people say that it was very good, but I wasn't convinced. I thought it was overrated until I tried it myself. It's way better than I could have imagined!

So, has anyone tried it? Did it meet your expectations?

Yes and yes.

I found some recipes online and made homemade butterbeer (alcoholic and not) and it was very enjoyable. But I much preferred the butterbeer from Universal Studios!

I'm looking forward to trying the ice cream!

I tried it and it tasted just like cream soda. For me, there wasn't really anything special about it and I think that it is overrated. It was also a little pricey, but if you split it between a few friends then it's not too bad.

I haven't tried butter beer yet. Is this the drink that the wizards in Harry Potter keep coming back for?

I tried butter beer when I went to Harry Potter world in London and it was so disappointing! Obviously it was expensive, which was to be expected, but it just tasted bad as well... such a shame

I'm so curious to try it! It happens a lot with food in books, especially new or magical food, that you just want to jump into the book to try it I used to feel that when reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a kid.

I looked up this bizarre recipe once and tried to make it myself. I ended up giving the rest to my fiance. Maybe it was my choice of British beer to add to it? I really want to go to Universal Studios, though. I've heard good reviews about their Butter Beer.

I tried it at Universal Studios and I was disappointed. Like someone said above it tasted a lot like cream soda, but like they added some kind of butterscotch syrup to it. I was expecting it to be like it was in the movies - thicker, whipped cream. It almost looks like a smoothie. It was definitely overpriced but so is everything else at amusement parks. It was worth the money to try it but I don't think I'd be tempted for another round. I've seen some intriguing recipes on the web though!

Was actually pretty curious about trying it, but after reading the posts, I am not so sure.

I saw this drink in the movie and just had to try it. I tried a recipe that I found online. It used butterscotch syrup and a few other inexpensive ingredients. It was quick to make. I thought it was really good. I have not tried the ones at Universal. That is on my bucket list.

I've always imagined it tasting something like sweetened, frothed-up fresh cream with melted butter, but not so heavy.

Yes and No. I purchased a case of butter beer from my local bookstore and found it to be too sweet for me to drink. I have not had the chance to go to Universal Studies and try it, perhaps there's a difference between them. I would be willing to try it again if I got to go! :D

Omg! I didn't even know there was butter beer to begin with?! I've never seen it in the grocery (or bookstore?!). I'd love to try it though. If it's as good as you Dh_ mentioned, tgen it should be worth the wait. I know i may never get to Universal studios to try it... but I'd like to know where I'd find it elsewhere.
