Hot Cross Buns - hot or cold?

Post by Helen_Combe »

For those who have hot cross buns at Easter, do you have them hot or cold.
My family have them hot, my partner’s family have them cold, and the argument raged all Easter Sunday. How do you have them?

I like that the dilemma caused spirited conversation! I bake them and they are usually gone within minutes so it’s hot in this family.

I have to admit that I’ve never baked hot cross buns, I should give it a try. We also had a spirited debate about scones. We all agreed that the cream goes on top of the jam, but fights broke out as to whether they should be buttered first.
Does anybody else have traditional dishes that cause fights?

Oh no ! Buttered scones give me the willies but I’m fond of raspberry jam on them. My kids will insist on nothing but orange marmalade pasted over the tops. There are so many ways to enjoy !

Not according to my partner’s family!
I’m afraid I’m all for butter, jam and cream. The richer the better.

Oh wow, I’ve never tried that, it sounds great ( but don’t tell my partner’s family, they’ll probably take out a contract on you 😄)

Hotcross buns are better hot, but with butter. Real butter. They are fine when cold, but it loses some of its texture.

Today I found yet another way to have a scone. As I was walking into town, I saw one sat in the middle of someone’s driveway. I’d have take a photo as proof if links were allowed.
