I thought that this was true. "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." I do consider myself quite the master chef; however, it did not stop my ex from cheating on me. So yeah, now I don't make such an effort so often.

It's never implied that it's a man's place to cook, even though providing food at the early stages of dating IS an unbalanced norm.
This saying has slightly sexist roots, tbh, subtly implying that a woman should do domestic work for a man to earn his attraction or affection. So yeah it may be true, but in the way that a master can genuinely like his servants, still doesn't mean the roles are unbalanced.
At the end of the day it might even be slightly misandrist too, implying that men have little heart outside having their senses appeased.
