I try my best to stick as close as possible to the actual recipe but I always find it impossible to follow cooking instructions exactly. I add a few things here and there , substitute items or increase the quantity of my favourite ingredients (I always double the amount of vanilla extract).

I would definitely consider myself as a hybrid of the two. I need the recipe to start but after I cook it once I usually change the amount of ingredients and season more than what the recipe calls for.

I admit I’m an experimenter in terms of cooking and baking. I don't stick to one menu and one recipe for this may be satiable for quite some time. But, there are some times that I’m a strict follower especially if the food is one of my favorites!

I stick to a recipe first then on the second go around I experiment a little more to my liking. With baking I tend to stick to a strict recipe though.

I'm a bit of both. I strictly follow recipes for certain meals I'm doing while at times I experiment with ingredients to see what the outcome will be.

Experimenter. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think with baking you need to follow the recipe more than not, but I still add or subtract things that I think might work better.

Read the recipe. If all the ingredients are present, do the recipe as it is written. If not all the ingredients are present, look for alternatives and make them.

Most of the time I'm an experimenter, especially after I've done the recipe a couple times. While my dad makes sure to be precise his is measurement, my mom just makes it close enough. I am some where in the middle depending on how well I know the area.

I usually follow the recipe to the letter. If I have all the ingredients, which is rarely. I often find myself sustituting those I don't have for something else.

When my wife asks me to prepare or cook, it is exact, following her recipe, because she has a certain taste she wants. When it's me, you will find exotic spices in every dish. I like BBQ sauce and so it intermingles with many dishes that I experiment with.

A good cookbook, or trusted recipe, is already the result of fine-tuning through experimentation to get the best result. Substitutions do work, but I think less experienced bakers would get the best results when sticking to the tried and tested.

I tend to add a few extra ingredients if I think they will "improve" the recipe, e.g. nuts or cherries. Often it works out ok, but sometimes it doesn't e.g. when I added apples and make the mixture too wet/runny. So it is a risk if I experiment too much.
