I would say that I think I love both. It's hard for me to decide what's best with things like this sometimes and I guess I just don't mind, as long as it's good.

Movies based on books can definitely be disappointing because they miss out so much. But still, a well-portrayed movie can do so much better to make it worth watching.

I just finished 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir' audible book. It was a wonderful story. I am thinking that I should see the movie.

I am reading the 'Tropical Frontier' series about the history of Florida following a family for many generations. At least, the first book would be a great movie.

My favorite movie is "Crosscreek" with Mary Steenburgen and Rip Torn. If you have seen "The Yearling" movie, both books were written by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. I have watched these several times. I don't know that I would read the books, as the actors in the movies, live in my memory all my life and I wouldn't like to change that.

"Gone with the Wind' is a classic film with fantastic actors: Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable. I did try to read the book, but it was too dry, and I couldn't keep reading.

"The Grapes of Wrath" was such an amazing movie. I read the book, and both were magnificent in their own right.

I’m not a fan of movies based on books unless I see the movie before reading the book. I was disappointed in the Divergent series because it was already a fast paced book but there was still so much left out.

Movies based on books are extensions of the author's creativity, as they have to present the things mentioned in the book in reel life.

If the movie becomes more popular than the book, then the purpose of the movie is accomplished successfully.

Depends on the movie and how close they stayed to the original story. I usually like to read the book first, but there have been quite a few movies that I have seen before reading the book. Deliverance being one of them (which I found the movie ok but the book was boring as all get out).
The Cain Mutiny being a movie that was well done and followed the story line well. I could name a few others.
But, like you, I prefer to escape into the book and will only watch the movie if I think it deserves to be watched.

I feel that sometimes movies limit books in a way. They often cut out a lot of the material or change expectations when the character described in the book doesn't look the same on the television screen.

I recently read the Holly Jackson "Good Girls Guide to Murder" series of books, and I am looking forward to seeing the movie to see how it matches up.
