I read an article that mentioned that these “creatures” masqueraded as people's worst fears; thereby forcing them to kill themselves.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I never read the book. I heard a lot of people that read the book hated the movie.

I'm curious whether the origin is detailed in the book and they didn't have enough screen time to address it? The creatures' origins were never explored in the film. Viewers aren't given much information about them other than the fact that sane people can't look at them, and insane people think they're beautiful. I can't help but question if they were even corporeal beings.

I think the movie sucked. The CGI was good, and the characters were okay, but everything else is just absolutely terrible—very terrible.

Their true forms and origins are kept vague or shrouded in mystery similar to Lovecraftian monsters. But they may be aliens or beings from another dimension.

"Bird Box" was intense and had a unique concept. Sandra Bullock's performance was outstanding, and the suspense kept me on edge.

I had no idea this was a book before watching it when it came out. I enjoyed the movie a lot. I don't think I'd watch it again because it wasn't really my vibe but I enjoyed the premise and the story idea. It was new and unique to cinema at the time. Sometimes I think back on the movie and wonder how we'd all react to it if it happened in real life today. Probably something similar to Covid

I liked the movie. I didn't know it was based on a book. I think why it affected the psychology is because probably there was some hypnosis kind of phenomenon that those creature used to control the human minds.

I had the same question. It looked like the 'creature' used people's sadness or deep despair to draw them to it or to commit suicide. But also remembering how one of the actors was controlled by it to act like he saw nothing, and he tried to make other people look outside. This movie was interesting. I'm just finding out that this was a book then a movie. I need to rewatch the movie again and read the book.

Even though this one has Sandra Bullock, I'm guessing I'll give this watch a skip as it seems to be classified under "horror", which I usually give a wide berth. But I may give Josh Malerman's book a try.

Well, although I only stuck to the brief explanation of the book, I think it´s a little frightening to think of them as a form that our brain cannot comprehend that turns ourselves insane. Very lovecraftian :0.

I did not like the movie. I watched "Bird Box" when it was released on Netflix. Although I love Sandra Bullock as a performer and she did not disappoint here, the story was lacking. I felt like it would have been more impactful to include a bit more about the origin of the creatures.

I had no idea it was based on a book until a couple of weeks ago, when I saw the book in a bookstore (with the movie poster cover).

I do really like the premise of the book/movie. I felt like in the movie, the characters made stupid decisions, and the potential of the premise and creatures was not explored enough. Maybe I'll give the book a try; I'll check out some reviews!
