TV series versus movie adaptations - which works better for which books?

I think it would have to depend on the book and whether it is a series or not. Some books do pretty well in a movie, and a TV series would definitely be too much.

TV series are better for the books that have multiple issues over the entire story, like a trilogy, etc. That way, the ongoing series ensures that as few details from the books are missed in the screen adaptation as possible. Movies fare well for single-issue books as fewer details are to be covered, in my opinion. However, in either of the cases, the adaptation should be dedicatedly original in the context of the book(s), otherwise it would be just plain old stupid TV..
