Just got back from seeing Black Swan with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and wow what a spectacular film. It's directed by Darren Aronofsky the same man who directed 'Pi', 'The Wrestles' and 'Requiem for A Dream' all spectacular movies. From what I get of the movie it's about a womans transformation in to a character in a ballet who's personality is pretty much the opposite of who Portman is outside of the ballet. It's really a quite trippy movie but rife with fantastic visuals and a great musical score.

Easily 8/10

I recently watched about 4 gay/lesbian genre movies in a row. And actually most of them (random selection) were quite good and made strong points.

There's one called Loving Annabelle that's about a teacher at a girl's Catholic School that falls in love with one of the students, Annabelle, and though that might be inappropriate in itself it's more about the connection and emotion that they bond over. It overcomes the age, religion, gender, and moral barriers but in an oddly appropriate way. The parts with the other girls, eh, didn't really care, but their bond itself is the good part. 7/10.

And then there was Boys Don't Cry with a young Hilary Swank portraying a young woman in a sexual identity crisis who longs to be a boy. It shows her relationship with a girl who thinks she's a boy initially (she cuts her hair, oppresses her breasts, dresses as a boy, and even goes as far as stuffing a sock down there and when things became intimate it was a realistic dildo). But even though that sounds odd and to some people disgusting, the trials she goes through and how the other girls still loves her for who she is after finding out what her physical gender really is is the amazing part. She was brutally raped (her virginity was taken from her that way) and eventually murdered along with another friend, by a friend who became angry at this fact and jealous. It did take place in sorry, narrow Iowa. 8/10.

And the other one that I thought was pretty good was I Can't Think Straight with Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth. Yeah, I'll agree, for the most part it was a boring and dull storyline. But the fillings of it made it worth it. In this movie the two girls had to overcome coming out against their very proud and religious families. For one girl it practically ruined her family's high class reputation in Jordan. It also played a big part in their life happiness and careers. That's the part I liked, not really the rest of it, bad comedy and acting in a lot... But the points yes haha. 6.5-7/10.

Next up... La Vie En Rose.

Boys Don't Cry... If you get a chance (and if you haven't already) read "All She Wanted" by....hang on, I'll try to find my copy...by Aphrodite Jones. Breaks my heart. Every time I read it I just want to hug Brandon and tell him how beautiful he is. Was. *sigh*
edited to add:
I just saw the remake of "The Wicker Man". I didn't think it was nearly as bad as it was made out to be. Not even close to the original, though. 6/10

The Nick Cage one....I think it would have been a much better movie if Cage learned how to emote a bit more. It always feels like he's playing every character the same way.

Oi thanks for the recommendation, I was just at B&N today, so I'll definitely check it out later this week.

I recently saw Cloverfield which I thought was terrible so I won't even elaborate...

And The Human Centipede: The First Sequence.
Crazy haha.
The whole cliche people (in this case 2 girls) in a foreign country have a flat tire or other such problem and end up walking off looking for help and happen upon a house that happens to so be the furthest place you want to be at...
It was interesting, the medical side of it really was interesting, but I think it could have done better with some more realistic things such as the girl rips her IV up her arm accidently and it gushes blood insanely for a long time, but when a guy is stabbed in the foot and thigh and somewhere else that should totally bleed, it hardly did at all... Not to mention he didn't leave a blood trail on the ground. If you watch it, you'll see what I mean. And when someone was knocked out or dead you could see them breathing or moving haha. And they needed a more gory part; the people are connected exactly as the title says, but mouth to butt repeatedly. I think at some point one of them should have torn that connection, there's a part where you seriously think it will happen but it doesn't... Disappointing. And the ending should have been different in my opinion, say at the end more cops come to find out what happened to their buddies and then they happen upon the house and everything in it. Not just where it pans out on the girl in the middle segment crying...
5/10.

I watched Human Centipede with my husband and my mom during Thanksgiving and boy did it make me sick to my stomach. They also failed to explain how a human being can survive on waste products from another human being. Their bodies would starve from lack of nutrients. But I also agree with the ending being awful. Two cops go missing and no one decides to follow up with it?? I also didn't care for when the guy in the first segment kills himself... if he had chosen to live he could have yelled out when the cops arrived and brought attention to them in the bedroom.

I know!!!
As soon as he showed his little slides on how he was going to operate I asked Chris if he was going to fully connect their digestive systems or if they have to eat feces... And then in the yard part I yelled "I knew it! that's so stupid, why would you even create that when they're going to die of lack of nutrients? especially that last girl..."
That was disappointing, I think it could have been made so much better, but they failed to pay attention to some small but major details. Yeah, that was the worst twist ever for angry man to kill himself... Noo sense.

So yesterday morn I saw Good Dick with a friend.
Though categorized as a comedy on dear Nety, it's really a drama.
This girl is a soft-core porn addict (never penetration) and the guy at the video store she rents from starts to like her and just gets curious by the movies she rents.
He weasels his way into her life, basically forced, and though he lives out of his car he decides to change her life around. He starts staying at her apartment, creates some lie that his great aunt died so she lets him in and has sympathy... and works from there with getting her to talk and tries to get her to go outside since she only goes out for movies. There are a couple of funny lines in there like when they're arguing and he goes "I love you this fight is over." and when discussing having sex he says "We're trying it end of discussion." And though rape is no funny matter, when she gets mad and says she's sleeping on the couch he says "fine" and hops onto the couch next to her and pulls her blanket so she starts screaming "rape" and he yells "shut up" and then "you wish" alternately. I guess that part is more of a "you have to see it" part, but amusing all the same just by how it's done. Though not a comedy, it does have a good point and is kind of strong for being and Indie. 7.5/10.

I think that was the point, in Wicker. If we'd really liked the guy, the end would've been horrifying. Or maybe we should've liked him, so the end would be horrifying...hmmm.

Jane Austen Book Club.
I have watched this movie so many times my DvD hates me.
I absolutely love it! I think the one thing that keeps me hooked though is Grigg (played by Hugh Dancy). He makes it un-look-away-able. I love Grigg. I have decided this is my perfect man and will take nothing less!!!! Nerd and all... he's mine!!!!
The rest of it can jump off a cliff.... a long as Grigg is safe. Yays!

I gave in and am watching Let Me In as we speak... I haven't made up my mind about it yet. I'm trying not to be biased since im already in love with it's original, and have doubted it's remake. But i'm trying to behave. Plus i found the book online. It just took two weeks to get here.... so hopefully i can say i like this movie and all things connected to it soon. Fingers crossed... here's hoping. Heehee!

Saw "The Other Guys" starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. I'm pretty tough on comedies but I must say that this was pretty damn funny. Please watch it if you like dark and dirty humor... yet light and soothing too.

One of many strange, yet meaningful songs -

"Pimps don't cry, pimps don't cry... ohhhh pimps don't cry."

I give it 4 stars out of 5!!!!

I just watched Black Swan and it was tremendous! Odd. No... scratch that. VERY odd. Yet beautiful all the same. Gorgeously dark movie. Nice adaption to bringing Swan Lake into real life. But oh my! No one told me there was that much sex in it! Goodness... Not what i was expecting one bit! But as i said... i loved it. I've never really been a fan of Natalie Portman but i must say she blew me away with this perfomance. She knocked the bar right up there with my favorite actresses because of that performance, and thats not an easy bar to get to. I may have to give Natalie another chance before i say i dont like her again, eh?! 10 out of 10 no doubt.

Saw The Girl Who Played With Fire last night and thought it was brilliant, it got very weak reviews so i was wary but i found it just as good as the first movie. A bit longer yes, but you dont feel it and they manage to include practically every element of the book. Starts with Lisbeth starting a new life in Sweeden and then she is wrongly accused of 3 murders and it descends into an action thriller with twists and turns a-plenty. Naomi Rappace really makes this film- nobody else could have saved a weak central performance but she makes Lisbeth Salander real and gritty and true, you want her to succeed, you forgive her violence when you consider her past, you want her to be happy, i have rarely rooted for a character as much as Salander and Rappace is a credit to the role. And this isnt a girl you mess with- only a wisp of a thing but she can spar with the biggest of boys, very emotional ending, too, i eagerly await the third installment, but im not sure the Hollywood remake will be half as good as this.

I rate it 9 out of 10.

Watched Deathproof last night for the 10th time. Love this movie, Quentin Tarantino is my favorite screenwriter of all time. This is one of his best movies. Check it out!! I also love Rosario Dawson who is in it.
