I think book-to-film adaptations have really improved in the last couple of years. It's exciting to see others' creative interpretation of a beloved novel in a whole different medium that has its own set of advantages.

When done right, it can actually be complementary. I just get frustrated when some movies leave so much of the books out or changes things. But movies like Beloved and the twilight saga (two polar opposites I Know!!) are pretty good and I found we’re made closely to the book.

TV/Film is a different medium. What works in a book doesn't always come across as well on screen, and there are also budgetary concerns. Because of that I can excuse some changes or omissions. For instance, maybe a book has several battles, and they combine two into one, or leave one out.

What I have more of an issue with is altering characters, relationships, or the plot itself, to the point it no longer carries the same meaning or emotion. An example could be a drama where the director decided the couple don't end up together although they did in the novel. Sometimes studios use the name of a book for its popularity while not really being a fan of the book or caring to represent it.

A: The movie does not affect the book in any way (Except when some marketing genius changes the book title to the movie title)
B: Movies are good at giving books exposure they would otherwise not receive.
Totally agree to this!

Someone had a quote once that stated readers love the books more because they get the privilege of creating the atmosphere and characters in their minds from the reading. Movies are made from one persons's point of view and ruins that image that was created from the book. I think that's why readers hate the movie. You simply can't recreate everything that was written.

If done perfectly, they can provide a great platform for a book series and author to grow exponentially. The Harry Potter franchise has grown to such a large extent because the books were made into captivating movies.

A wholehearted YES! Once a story is taken from written word to the screen it becomes more accessible and often more relatable. Take Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare vs the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio): suddenly the content is more palatable and the story itself receives greater exposure.

I personally always prefer books and love reading them!
If the variations can be kept to a minimum they should be turned into movies or tv series so that people who don’t enjoy reading can still enjoy the stories!

I feel like the majority of the time I prefer the book over the movie/TV series. That's not to say that the movie isn't well done but I feel like most of the time the producers haven't read the book or consulted the author before doing whatever changes they want.

I almost always prefer the book, but I enjoy movie adaptations if done well. I hate it when they change important details or plot points (thinking of the last installment of the Divergent series- total disappointment). I think it helps when the author helps with the screenplay as occurred with The Princess Bride which is flawless and follows the book perfectly.

I agree with everyone who said they almost always prefer the book over a movie, but they still enjoy movie adaptations of certain books. There are books that I would have never read had I not seen the movie first (like Twilight). I did not love the actors in the Twilight movies, but the story had potential, so I read the books while I waited for the movies to come out.

It actually depends upon the book whether it can be made into a movie or not for example a book concerning singing should not be made into a movie as real actors cannot reproduce the same that fictional characters can similarly books related to dancing etc should not be made into movies but other books like romance ones and even some action should be made into movies

It's always challenging when a beloved book is adapted into a show or movie, and it can be disappointing when the adaptation doesn't stay true to the original material. 'Bridgerton' for instance the first seasons captured the magic of the books, but as the series progresses, changes can sometimes dilute that essence. It's frustrating when the core of the story you loved is altered or overlooked.

After watching a movie and enjoying it, many people tend to read books by the same author. Other works by the author also receive attention.
