Its definitely not geared towards the impatient mainstream Western audience, it is a story that unfolds in its own damn time, the special effects are of a low budget quality and i think it could have been cut by half an hour but still an original film, well made.GotThatSwing wrote:I must see it. I'm a big fan of Scandinavian cinema. And I don't mind slow moviesStephenKingman wrote:Let the Right One In, its the original Swedish movie about a young boy who befriends the new girl next door who happens to be a vampire, Hollywood made a remake last year called Let me In.
Its touching in places and a very raw and gritty film, but its also very slow and a little dragged out in places. Good but not great, 6 out of 10.

Now all that is not to say the movie was terrible but there were a few instances that were cringe worthy and came in the form of unintentional comedy. Sir Anthony Hopkins once again reprises his role as Hannible Lecter who is portraying a Priest who according to the movie has performed over 1000 exorcisms in real life. Hopkins does an amazing Lecter leering at the camera as if he has just had a stroke. Don't get me wrong Hopkins has done some amazing screen work but honestly when he plays a bad guy he plays the same intelligent, brooding, yet funny character.
The story itself is supposedly "inspired" by real events. To my knowledge both the priests in the movie are real people and both are "exorcists" and there was a mandate that came down from the Vatican about exorcisms. Okay good enough the story is the same as almost every exorcism movie you've seen and quite frankly is old hat now and I'm not sure I really enjoyed the movie.
I would suggest you save your money and perhaps rent this when it comes out or grab it on Netflix.
5/10
I just want to see the Devil win once...The Last Exorcism had the right idea.

Wow, each to their own i suppose, i hated that movie, thought Jolie really proved that she couldnt act her way out of a paper bag, swanning around looking good but with no substance to her, whilst Depp just looked out of place, just my opinion.Zekes wrote:Last movie that I saw in theater was The Tourist. And if I'm going to rate I think I'll give 9 out of 10 because Angelina and Johnny Depp have done their job well and the story has a really good twist. Though its not full of action but its really entertaining.

I haven't seen it, but I've heard such bad things about it that I'm not going to even bother watching it.StephenKingman wrote:Wow, each to their own i suppose, i hated that movie, thought Jolie really proved that she couldnt act her way out of a paper bag, swanning around looking good but with no substance to her, whilst Depp just looked out of place, just my opinion.Zekes wrote:Last movie that I saw in theater was The Tourist. It's weird...I grew up with communal living and (somewhat) passive resistance and tie-dye (annnd....other......things)(hence the tie-dye), and my kids are only vaguely aware of the late 60s/early 70s. The Chicago 7 (8, really) were Gods in my household when I was growing up. My father had a denim jacket that had blood stains on it from a protest, and it was handed down like a family heirloom. Which, for my family, I guess it was.
Anyway, good movie, though a bit overdone...8/10 & R.I.P. Abbie!

Wow that's fantastic. My parents were not in any way in to hippies or protests. A few were military with time in Vietnam, Korea, etc and are paying for it now.Tralala wrote:Chicago 10.

Yes, and no. I was the most responsible person in the household when I was 5. They threw some great parties, though.Tip the Bottle wrote: Wow that's fantastic. My parents were not in any way in to hippies or protests. A few were military with time in Vietnam, Korea, etc and are paying for it now.
I'm sorry about the military thing. My father got conscientious objector status. If he hadn't, I'd be Canadian.
Support the troops, not the war.
Rant over.

I've got a "scary" rat movie to watch tonight.

I was shocked that my dad let me watch Animal House once I saw the movie. The only thing I heard about animal house was "You can't really appreciate John Belushi until you see Animal House" (from my dad) so I requested to see when we were at the video store. I however was in for a shock once I came to see how heavily sex is implicated into the movie. My mom had a cow when she heard I saw it! Howver, I still thought it was hilarious and was glad I watched it, though it got kind of slow at the end. I'd rate it 8/10
As for The Rite, it was my first exorcism movie, so I don't have a basis for comparison to other movies. I felt it was all right, but not spectacular. The movie wasn't reall all that exciting, and while I appreciate the message that it conveyed, I still thought it could have used a few more elements of horror. My aunt ( who is a serious Christian) loved it though, so I suppose I wasn't the intended audience. Rating: 6/10
On a side note, I also watched the first 25 minutes of a "martial arts" movie with my father called Kung Fu Master. It stunk so bad, it was hilarious ; I really don't reccomend watching however. I'd rate it 2/10

StephenKingman wrote:Saw 'Buried' last night and i would rate it 8 out of 10, the fact that Ryan Reynolds manages to keep your attention for a film set entirely within a wooden coffin is a credit to his acting ability. There are some very intense scenes as his character pants his way through ringing the emergency services trying to explain his situation and then having to fend off a snake, and its not a movie for the claustrophobic! I didnt really like the ending to it, a tad disappointing, other than that its very good.
Is the entire movie filmed from withing a crate?

Yes, there is not one scene from outside the coffin, which made me think that it would run out of steam very quickly but i didnt find that to be the case, it was a real gritty and tense movie.Tip the Bottle wrote:StephenKingman wrote:Saw 'Buried' last night and i would rate it 8 out of 10, the fact that Ryan Reynolds manages to keep your attention for a film set entirely within a wooden coffin is a credit to his acting ability.
