Recently I would have to say my favorite was "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed. The movie jumped a bit but the book made complete sense.

I liked Les Misérables. It was very emotional.

Definitely Little Children by Tom Perrotta. Wonderful book and the movie may have even been better.

Has to be the hobbit for me. I think splitting it into different movies really allowed them to develop the plot the same way it was within the book. One of the first reads that made me cry and the movie had me feeling the same.

The Harry Potter series was, hands down, the best book to movie adapation I have ever seen. There was nothing majorly wrong with the plot in the movies that threw off the series (*hint hint* Percy Jackson or Divergent). Those two book series were amazing, but the movies ruined it as soon as they could get their hands on it.

 It is not exactly book to movie adaptation i would say but i actually really loved Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon. I believe he does justice to the character!

I personally really liked Divergent, I know many fans were disappointed but I actually enjoyed the movie very much. I know many of the details were changed and taken out but I still thought the movies were good.

Hello All,

I have a throw-back movie that I really enjoyed as both a book and a movie, "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien. The book was created as a cartoon movie in 1988. It was a perfect rendition of the book, the only thing that is lacking by today's standards is the animation itself, which in 1988 would have been top of the line.

Now don't get me wrong, "The Hobbit" movies that were created recently were great, but they included aspects of J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Simarillian" as well as the appendixes of "The Lord of the Rings" novels. Therefore, they are not simply the story of "The Hobbit" itself. These additions are why I enjoyed the cartoon representation of "The Hobbit" better than the newest movies.

The book itself has been one of my favorites of all time and thus it was a great movie for me. I not only enjoy the story of rescuing the gold from the dragon but also of the poor hobbit Bilbo Baggins being taken from the quiet safety of his hole in the ground named Bag End, and shown the excitement that can be had on a real adventure. It was and still is a great all encompassing story, even almost 100 years after it was written.

Thank you for your time and for reading my comments,
Sasha

I know this is a bit mainstream but Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is one of my favorite book-to-movie adaptation. It's more detailed compared to the other HP movies but more importantly, it made my whole Potter universe come to life! I've read the book (and watched the movie counterpart  ) more than five times and the excitement and thrill is the same every time.

My favorite book ended up becoming a movie, and I was super bummed. It seems like so many books-turned-movies are never like the book, and usually end up making me wish I didn't watch. However, Bridges of Madison County was different. I don't think they could have found any set of characters better than Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. I was swooning the entire time! If you haven't read or watched, I totally recommend!
Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light. :techie-studyingbrown:

It seems like the current fad is TV series adaptations of books or classic movies... It's really a terrible thing... Since a TV show has to be drawn out so much, the end result ends up being unrecognizable. Also, it seems that all characters on TV shows have to fit into one of a set of "molds", so adapted characters end up being cut up and changed SO MUCH to fit this "mold" that they're COMPLETELY different from the original characters in the source material!!

I watched this movie a few months ago, actually :) Are there a lot of differences between the book and the movie? I know that 99% of the time there are lol

Certainly the Harry Potter Series. I practically grew up with the books, and the movies didn't disappoint me. I remember saving up money to see the movies in the theater.

I am finally reading the Harry Potter series after having seen the movies years ago. I must say that the books that inspired the movies are very impressive. I find myself telling my husband that I will be ready in two more pages. He just laughs at me now. I am still trying to find the book that inspired the movie "Fly Away Home" has anyone found it?

I agree! But oddly enough I really like the TV series adaption of The 100 series. That show changed almost everything and is nothing like the source material, but this is the first time I actually like the adaption more than the books. It's unbelievable, even to me. I mean, if you ever told the old me that I will like a TV adaption more than the original book series, I would've laughed for days.

Another adaption I really REALLY love is the 2013 Jdrama (Japanese drama) adaption of Kazoku Game. That TV series was hands down amazing.
