As a huge HP fan, I cannot bear to watch The Goblet of Fire or The Order of the Phoenix. Those two movies were completely butchered. Perhaps it is because the books were so long, but I feel that many important (in my opin I n) parts and details were left out.

The original or the recent remake?

Both of them were disappointing, though the original was less disappointing than the recent remake.
The soundtrack of the original was great.

The first one that comes to mind is It , from the Stephen King book. It was the first SK book I ever read, and it blew my mind in so many levels! But mostly, what changed the prejudice against him I had until then, what surprised me was his uncanny talent for character development and for creating believable, lovable (or hateable), three dimensional characters. And the movie botched it up like no other movie I remember seeing.
Another one i recall was another horror movie/story: The Haunting (1999) based on the brilliant The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. In this one they probably didn't completely ruin the characters, but they turned a subtle, eerie, unnerving tale of supernatural and psychological horror into what basically was a popcorn movie.
And probably, also The House of the Spirits, based on the novel by chilean author Isabel Allende (La Casa de los Espíritus), a weird, magical and powerful story that narrates the lives of 3 generations of an aristocratic Chilean family. The movie is maybe not all that horrible, but considering that it was directed by Bille August, and the cast included Jeremy Irons, Meryl Streep, Vanessa Redgrave and Glenn Close, among others, one would have expected a bit more than a whitewashed story that lost all of its magic realism and strange characters.

The Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban movie. It's the best of the books, but the absolute worst of the films!

My Sisters Keeper. They completely changed the main plot line and made it impossible for me to enjoy the movie.

Before I go to Sleep... This was one of my book club books and me and my friend loved it! I was renting a movie with my husband one night and I saw that it was a movie (I had no idea) and it had decent actors in it so we decided to watch it. It was a TOTAL let down. The book was one that I could see myself rereading but I will never watch the movie again.

Harry potter book series.

After Harry potter and the Sorcerer's Stone I was not very intrigued after watching all the sequels. The producers missed a lot of things from the book into the movies, even though they might of been little things to them.

Beautiful Creatures. Such a great series. They tried to put four books into one movie and kind of ruined it.

Also My Sisters Keeper. Hated that they changed the ending.

The most disappointing movie adaptation I have seen is Twilight. The first movie is so awkward, and it only gets slightly less awkward by the time you watch Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Oh man, I have to be careful or I'll go off on a rant...

One book that I absolutely adored that was made into a HORRIBLE movie was...wait for it...Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

They completely butchered the story line!!! It was a shot to the heart for me, and I don't know how the directors aren't ashamed of it.

To make matters worse, they filmed a second one too! AND IT WAS EVEN WORSE. I couldn't even make it all the way through.

They completely broke my heart, and to this day it has been one of the many things that haunts me.
