I think every one agrees that a film takes a lot off of the novel in a book
1- shortens the novel to crucial parts deleted
2- boxes imagination by giving imaginable pictures to wide open things at a book

Simply put films destroy books the take away so much and in my opinion take away the freedom to make one's own conclusion and also do not cast properly as they change race, gender and so on losing the vitality of the character in the story.

I usually get mad when I see movies that were originally books.

The Host, by Stephenie Meyer, was particularly bad. It was an amazing book, but the movie was really confusing. I wouldn't have known what was going on if I hadn't read the book.

I think the Harry Potter movies are good though. Obviously there's a lot missing because the movies would be ridiculously long if all the details were included. But I feel like the movies represent the books well.

So, in general I prefer the books, but sometimes the movies can be good, too!
