What movie didn't you initially know was a book?

Post by sarahnichole92 »

I am always amazed when I see "based on a book by..." on the title screen, especially classic movies. I like to read the book before seeing a movie- but I didn't know there were so many! For example:

Schindler's List (titled Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally)

The Godfather- MArio Puzo

Breakfast At Tiffany's- Truman Capote. I like both equally as much. I love Audrey Hepburn!

What are some movies you didn't believe were initially books? Which one did you like better?

Sunday's at Tiffany's - James Patterson
The Princess and the Frog, based on the book The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker

I can't think of others but now I assume that movies are based off of books because I found that so many are.

Under the Tuscan Sun. I've seen the movie multiple times, but only recently found out it was based on a book. I still haven't read it.

Misery

Sophie's Choice

.......... the first time I watched these movies I did not know they were adaptations of books. I'm sure there are others.

Goodfellas. I have just watched " Being Made " ( the making of documentary ) and its inspired me to buy the book. Knowing the writer had a heavy hand in the movie script and knowing how much I adore the movie, is getting me excited for its arrival!

Queen of the Damned. I knew about the Anne Rice books starting with Interview with the Vampire, but when I saw this movie, I didn't know it was based on her third book in the series Queen of the Damned. I suppose it missed too much and didn't even get the story that it just didn't click in my head.

I didn't know that Carrie was a book until I saw it at Chapters. Not only was I excited that it was based on a book, but I was so excited to find that it was by Stephen King! I bought it and am going to start it soon :)

There are a few movies I remember watching, not knowing it was a book until the credits. Ella Enchanted was one of them. Another was the Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I remember watching it and loving it, then picking up the book at the library. I loved the story even more. This day and age, there seems to be more and more books that become movies. I don't know if Hollywood is running out of creativity or what...
