I wouldn't know how to choose between The Matrix or V for Vendetta. You guys also pointed out excellent books.

"Midsommar" definitely makes you think. You never can predict where the plot is going and in the end you're left with so many questions. I recommend reading the trigger warnings before watching though!

Maleficient is the biggest movie I've seen so far. As I pass through various scenarios, my mind shouts uncontrollably. It provokes contemplation, but it's well worth the time to watch it.

Constantine is a great movie. But I have not seen Thirteenth Floor, Inception and others. I think I have a lot of movies to catch up to. However, Constantine is indeed thought provoking.

This is a limited series on Netflix called When They See Us. It really leaves you contemplating about certain things. It is about 5 boys being convicted of a crime that they did not commit. It made me cry and left me shook. So I definitely recommend it.

The Dark Knight trilogy. There are many dialogues that are thought provoking such as "it's not who you are inside Bruce..it's what you do that defines you".

For me I think it would be Cloud Atlas, a movie made from the novel written by David Mitchell, whose theme involves "all things being connected".

This movie is in part what inspired me to write Causality which, if you're interested, can be found in the Creative Works - Short Story section of this website. In one of the other forums someone once asked, "What is your inspiration for writing." this movie (Cloud Atlas) is a good example of how one can be inspired to write as a result of experiencing someone else's work.

Us, because of the weird ending, you have to just try and figure it out for yourself. I love thought provoking movies as long as I can finally make sense of the story line. Otherwise, it gets annoying when you watch a 2 hour movie only to end up confused.

Mine is Requiem for a Dream. A 2000 movie
It shows in graphic detail the harshness of
addiction and the lengths that people will go to in
order to get a kick.

One film that comes to mind which was very thought-provoking was called "Man on Wire", a documentary about a tight-rope walker who strung a tight-rope between the Twin Towers in NY, and had the audacity to walk between them. It's an older movie (obviously), but was one of the most thought-provoking I have encountered.
