I'm a huge book and movie fan so this is a hard one. Most of the time I can't stand it when they change things in the movies, however, it is nice to enjoy the stories/universes in movie form. So ultimately my answer to this question would still be a yes to movies! You just got to separate the book from the movie in your mind and understand that there will almost always be some kind of difference.

I completely agree! Movies based on a book are great and all. But unless that book is a true story, I see no reason to make it into a film! It's hard to recreate a book just as the author intended it.

I usually don't like to watch a movie that has been made from a book. I agree with other posts that reading the book you determine the looks and scenery going on by the words the author uses. Some authors really know how to describe a scene or surroundings that you can almost smell or feel the surroundings being described.
Author Debbie Macomber is a good author at acheiving this point. Hallmark channel has done a few of her serial books Cedar Cove and some were a surprise to see who they cast for particular roles did not match how I pictured the character.
The last movie I read and saw both was The Help. This turned out well with book characters and settings matching movie version.

I think it depends on the genre. Books such as The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Sherlock, and Pride & Prejudice are all examples of book-to-TV gone right. However, I remember reading The Fault in Our Stars and absolutely loving it, then watching the movie and being so, so disappointed.

It depends. Books are usually made into movies so a wider audience can enjoy the plot because not everyone is a reader. Sometimes the book is best left as a book. Other times it can make a good movie if done properly. Some movies absolutely mess up the book and are so hard to watch. Others are enjoyable.

Logical concept and a lot of rights, but still some books made into movies are just as good and it's a pleasure to watch.

It depends. The Fault in Our Stars was very well done. But the Giver was horribly done in my opinion

No, no, no. I'm not for it at all. Most times, the movies are poorly made renditions of the books if I'm being honest.

I have no problem with books being made into movies. I would prefer that the movie sticks to the book's characters and storyline and minimizes any changes from the book.

Sometimes I like how a book ends up as a movie but most of the time I feel like they better haven't made certain movies.

Well, even thought the movie producers sometimes don't get it right, I like it when the books come to life in the big screen.

I want to say yes because when it’s done right it’s *chef’s kiss. But if it’s not done right or the casting/acting is bad then it’s so much worse because you already have the story built up in your head.

As long as it follows exactly what is in the book.

Movies made out of book leave out some details which make the plotline ambiguous. I prefer films scripted but not out of book sequels.

If done correctly then yes. Meaning if they do not change MAJOR parts of the book in the movie, or change the story line. I hate when they do that!
