-He avoids Voldemort getting control of Hogwarts when is on the top of his power the first time.
-Saves Harry on the 5th book on the MM when Voldemort posses him.
-Discovers that Voldemort is alive because of the Horrocruxes when no one else knew anything about it.
-Organises (twice) the resistance against Voldemort.
-Discover the 12 uses of dragon blood!
I think he does quite enough!

I'm inclined to agree with you. I honestly think Gandalf is way more helpful and more involved than Dumbledore was. I'm pretty sure that Dumbledore would win.
