Great Gatsby: Book or Film?

For me, I absolutely love The Great Gatsby novel by Scott F. Fitzgerald, but the newest movie, did do it just I believe. Novels are able to go so much more in depth through their words and construct, so it's easier to keep up with the themes throughout.
However, I believe that the movie was able to keep the same momentum as the novel. It was entertaining as it was meaningful and I liked that
You could see Gatsby's illusions and see that theme developing.
However, without the novel, I'm not sure it would be as meaningful for me.

This is one of the few times where the movie was just as good as the book. Of course you can't really get everything if you just watch the movie but I feel like Leonardo DiCaprio's acting was amazing, I don't think the movie would have been as good if he was played by anyone else.
In the end I think the movie made me like the book so much more.

I would definitely say book! There were so many symbols and easter eggs that kind of just got lost in the movie.
The movie did get the idea down though, and I thought the execution was really creative and unique, so I am glad that it has that stylistic element

Oh without the novel it definitely wouldn't have been nearly as meaningful without the book. It was my absolute favorite book in High School and I re-read it every other year.

That being said, the movie gave me such strong feelings and definitely made me tear up more than once. I loved the combination of modern music with the glamour. I bought it as soon as it came out. I loved it.

As crazy as this sounds, I've actually never read the book or seen the movie either.

The 1979 version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow is way better than the new version. I adore Leonardo DiCaprio, but I cannot stand Baz Luhrman. The movie focused more on the opulence of Gatsby's lifestyle than on his personality or his relationship with Daisy.

Book definitely. One of the greatest American classics. I thought the movie was ok, but not amazing.

Without question the book. However, if you have not seen the 1949 or 1974 versions of the film, I suggest you do so. You will not be disappointed.
