But alas, The Cursed Child spoiled the fun for me and I don't consider it a part of the original canon. And so does the Fantastic Beasts series.

You should absolutely read the books! I still reread them (probably way too much) and even around ten or fifteen years later after first discovering the series I still love it. Maybe you could be audiobooks a try?
