I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact he didn't read the book. He said he didn't want to confuse the character in the book with the character in the show. I found that incredibly frustrating.

This is obviously quite an old thread, but I just wanted to add that I saw the series and haven't read the book yet at all. I was hooked immediately and have now just finished watching the second series. Is the book worth reading after having watched the series or is it basically the same?

Yes, I have watched it and read the books. They’re both worth the read and watch. I give it a ten out of ten!

I really love the Netflix series they did and I did not even realise it was initially a book. Now that I know that I’m definitely going to read the book. Nevertheless, I think it was important to address mental illness on a larger scale and unfortunately not enough people read books, despite how much I adore them.

I actually enjoyed the first season of Thirteen Reasons Why more than the book. I think it is due to the fact on screen it is so much more dramatic. They ended up with a great cast that work well together. It certainly was more heart breaking to me. However, they should have stopped with season one. I watched the second season and did not enjoy it at all. I can honestly say I will not be watching the third season.

Actually the content in the book and the series is different in a lot of ways . It's just that both are so good but in my opinion one should watch the series first because it can get people mad because the series is so different from the book

I thought the show did not portray the book very well at all. There were a few scenes in the book that were supposed to be ambiguous, your weren't really supposed to know fully what happened, and then in the show you see a very strong bias towards one side or the other.

I'd say it was a good show, if you hadn't read the books first.

The first season was really good. The second season though is a hot mess. I feel like the series was interesting when it was following the book more and not diverging it after it already finished adapting the book.

This right here! I stopped after season one. The second season was a disaster.

I didn’t read the book, but loved season one. Season two was awful and I didn’t get past episode 2.

I've been a fan of the 13 Reasons why Netflix film because the book seemed a bit boring for me.

I didn't read the books, I had no idea it was a series. I did watch the show with a friend but we didn't enjoy it. It was rather depressing and not my go-to show.

Just realized there is a book for Thirteen reasons why and am wondering why I never thought of that before.
