I always try to finish all the books because I hate to like give up. But if it gets to a point that I can't do it anymore I have to let it go. It has only happened a few times but usually well into 150 pages.

Sometimes I drop it after a 10-15 pages, sometimes I read full chapter to survey, which is about 50 pages in avarage.

I give a book a few sample pages, but in a movie, I tend to make the decisions early, even in less than five minutes into the movie.

Let's see, for books, I give the first three chapters a trial and that's if I don't get pissed off first. For movies, it depends on how long it is. I usually watch the full first episode of any series before drawing my conclusions.

I think I'm on track with OP.
I give movies and series 20 minutes. I try to get to 100 pages in a book, but if it is truly bad, I will tap out around 40-50 myself.

A book has till page 50, sometimes 100. A movie? It takes 30 minutes before I can tell if I was really wasting my time.
