I am curious what my fellow reading friends thought of the newest movie adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time. I think of the book as "beloved," and I do not think ANY movie could do it justice. From the movie, I did not get the same nostalgic feelings that the book gave me, and I did not feel like I was connected to the characters either. Even the visuals were too much for me. And while I adore Oprah, I felt like the character she played was miscast. What are your opinions?

I'm a movie enthusiast and I have a high standard in movies. I knew by the time i saw its trailer, I knew it's not gonna be as magical as they want it to be. The movie is so boring. I love Oprah too, but i gotta say the cast is not that good. Most movies dont give the book justice, especially this one.

I read A Wrinkle In Time when I was a kid, but my wife had not ever read it. So, we read it together a couple months ago in preparation for the movie. The biggest issues I had with the movie was the overall character development and time taken. I felt it could've been a much better representation of the book if they'd been willing to take a little more time and use the 2 hours they took in a better manner. The whole movie felt rushed. We also were not thrilled with the exclusion of the twins, even with their role being more minor in A Wrinkle In Time.
I will say though, that I'm still not sure about Charles Wallace being adopted. I'm torn on that concept. I feel like he shouldn't be adopted because his genius always seemed to come from his genius parents and adoption changes that part of his character concept. However, I love the representation of a diverse, average family with an adopted child who is so very loved. I do think this representation matters, even if it changes my concept of the story.

I completely agree! I wanted to love it; I took my kids, and I wanted them to experience the magic of the book, but it just wasn't there. I think they maybe went overboard and the visuals and lacked on the actual story. So for now, I will just reread the books with my kids!

I have read and adored the book, haven't watched the movie yet. But I can't imagine it doing justice to the book.

It's a very expensive set, i think. There's just too much color for the eyes but not enough color for the heart. Omg that's so cuuute! You're a cool mom! I hope they'll enjoy the book than the movie.

I agree. There should have been more of a character focused story. Charles Wallace being adopted was something I had forgotten about, but when I watched the movie, I was somewhat surprised that they did that. It's a book that shouldn't be changed.

The movie was not held close to the book, that made the movie ok but it lost its magic. The book was far more enjoyable than the movie

I had a war in my mind about this, and now I'm definitely not. The book stirred something in my heart and when I go back to read it, I do not want the movie tarnishing my thoughts. I'm fine with never seeing the movie.

I only recently heard it has a book which I want to read first before watching the movie at all. The movie looks great by the way. I know I'm going to have a lot of fun reading the book.

I read the book and I think that it keeps suspense in every page of book first it describes the whole scenario of Meg's house her family members and people in the story on Mrs who , Mrs Whatsit and Mrs Which there are whole three chapters all over I think it's a good book.

I was disappointed by the movie. If I were a child though, I think I would have liked the movie a lot better.

If I had never read the book, the movie would have been more enjoyable to me. Alas, not so. I think the movie did a great job for someone finally adding the Medium. I was not a huge fan of the changes they made, i.e. no twins and an adopted Charles Wallace. What is so wrong with adding twins? Why did he have to be adopted? The only thing I could think of for that is to help it fit in with the times. A family that already is different must have something for everyone to relate to.
