Doctors & Medicine Humor

Post by Nomadmed »

I am a General Practitioner and I love books about "hospital life". Humorous ones to be correct.
My best 3 are "The house of God", "Scrubs on the verge of surreal" and "This is going to hurt".

I would love to hear your suggestions. :techie-studyinggray:

these sound fun.

This might be outside of the subject, but a really amazing TV Series is A Young Doctor's Notebook. It has a lot of dark humous and I can say I quite enjoyed it.

A great book about the health system in the UK is The Prison Doctor by Dr Amanda Brown.

Whilst unintentionally humorous, it’s a real-life memoir (similar to this is going to hurt) about a doctor handling youth, male, and female inmates, and trying to do the right thing.

As a physician myself, I love humorous medical books too and also enjoyed Shem’s works: “House of God” and “Mount Misery” but there are so many great ones out there!

Some others I suggest are:
“Another Day in the Frontal Lobe”
“Island Practice” Pam Belluck
“Final Exam” Pauline Chen
“Private Practices” Linda Wolfe
“Five Patients” Michael Crichton
“Weekends at Bellevue” Julie Holland

But I just read a real doozy from 1915 called “Speaking of Operations” by Irvin S. Cobb :D

I’ll have to check this one out too, thanks for the recommendation!
