My best friend is a single mother to a seven year old girl, and she recently found out that she is reading at the level of roughly a 4 year old and is very behind in cognitive ability in general. Since she is short on time for reading, I want to get her some books to sit down and read to her - what are some good books that a young girly girl with plenty of energy can get excited about (I'm happy to grab a couple she can grow into, like early chapter books, as well as a couple of picture books she can work through now). Thank you!!!

Hello! I would recommend The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery and Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke which is good for kids, too! :)
Stay safe! Sending hugs

It's a really disturbing discovery for the mother. One any normal parent would have a sleepless night about. I think you should seek the opinion of an expert here. Professional help will be better for the child.
