I loved Tanya Huff's "Blood Books" with Vicky Nelson. That Henry is one sexy vamp. These books are best read in the order in which they were written.

Thanks Hiril Isilme, I took your advice and read Nora Robert's The Circle Trilogy and just loved it! The battle scenes were awesome and the characters utterly believable. I loved the transition from today's world to a more medieval time. Well worth reading, I'd recommend this to anyone who is into vampire novels :D

I just started reading a series that doesn't quite fall under vampire books. The first one is called "Dead Witch Walking" by Kim Harrison. The main character is a witch, but her roommate is a vampire. I'm reading the second book and I've really enjoyed them both so far. Action, witches & vampires, humour, and lots of random twists thrown in.

Pappy wrote:I recommend Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore and the sequel You Suck!: A Love Story. Both are very good books and what I consider a realistic depiction of what a normal person would do when faced with such a transformation.
Seconded!

Also, I must recommend Christopher Golden's Shadow Saga. It's kinda pulp fiction, but it utilizes a very unique (in my opinion) twist of the entire vampire mythos. It's interesting and entertaining.

Definitely try Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, if you haven't. It is a VERY good vampire (and other "monsters") series. And LKH is continually writing additional novels for it, so you can keep reading! I personally own the whole series (so far) and I can't wait for the next one in the series (Skin Trade - #17) to come out this summer.

As some people mentioned, she does have another series, the Merry Gentry series, which is about Fairies and other such creatures. It is also a great series. There are fewer books in the series, but it is also ongoing.

I've also heard great things about the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris (upon which True Blood, the tv series, is based), though I haven't read it myself.

Enjoy your vampire books whichever ones you choose!!! :D

How about The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova is an epic tale, I am legend by Richard Matheson- although the film is poor the book is a classic written in 1954 and worth a read. Also, Joanne Harris The Evil Seed is good (although it is one of her first books and re-released after the success of her other books it is worth a read).

Bit of an obvious suggestion but I think Bram Stoker's Dracula is quite creepy, especially the opening chapters.

You could read the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. They have made a show on HBO called True Blood that is based on the books.
It's about vampires becoming part of everyday society. It has some romance between the main character and the vampires. They also have warewolves, shape shifters, and witches. I rely liked it, I would suggest it to anybody who likes vampire books.

I love the Sookie Stackhouse novels and the Twilight series. Both are kind of like crack IMO. The Blue Bloods Series is a little lighter, but still has me interested so far.

I prefer vamp books, so here is my list of authors and series. All have different vibes too.
Laurell K Hamilton-The Anita Blake Series-very sexually explict
Charlaine Harris-The Sookie Stackhouse books-Different then the show
Lara Adrian-The Midnight Breed Series-more romance action but fun
Christopher Moore-You Suck and Bite Me
Gerry Bartlett-Real Vampire series-sassy & sexy, fun read too
P.C. Cast-House of Night-young adult but very different realm of vamp
J.R Ward-Black Dagger Brotherhood-I've not read but my friend loves

And if you have not read the Twilight Series, I do suggest it. Its an easy read but really is a good series. It even has bad vampires and not as melodramatic as people think. lol

Enjoy! :D
