"I thought Sylvain Reynald was a guy..?"
:text-yeahthat:

:confusion-shrug: OMG - HE IS! I should have know from the writing style! (It can be intense and the Gabriel's Inferno trilogy was educational art in-part. I felt smarter having read it - not so much at the present  ) I read so much romance and it's rare to read it from male authors (wish there were more). You completely blew my mind and I had to go check it out.

Here's what I could find:

ARTICLE SNIPPIT:
Sylvian Reynard is the second known identity this author has assumed. SR first appeared in the writing world as Sebastien Robichaud, a member of the Twilight fanfiction community. Most writers there use a pen name. A majority of fanfiction writers are female. Furthermore, a majority of romance authors are female. So there was speculation that the author was truly female, but using a male pseudonym to further cloak the true identity. To help end the confusion of whether we should refer to SR as a he or she, SR self-identified as a male. He also claims to be Canadian. Dig any further into personal information and the interviewer is most likely to receive a "No comment".
A book is a device to ignite the imagination.

Not only is he a guy, he's a HOT guy, provided the images I've seen are actually him.

I'd never heard of him before this book and his website is rather ambiguous when it comes to actual information about him. I do remember reading that he is Canadian, though. He seems to be an enigma, doesn't he?

I have to tell you that I felt smarter after I read that book, too. I was searching the internet for Psyche and Cupid and looking at Renaissance art. I hadn't thought about mythology since I was in high school so I'd really lost my edge and I don't know a thing about art but I learned to appreciate it more just from reading The Raven.

When I wrote my review, I said something to the effect that I learned something. How good can it get? You have this vampire, this disabled woman who isn't a size two, mystery and a learning experience all rolled into one great novel. I loved every page of it and I recommend it.

I'm going to read that Gabriel series, too. Gabriel was in The Raven so if you loved Gabriel, he's back. ;)

Anne Rice is of course my favorite for vampires, but my favorite author, S.M. Stirling also has a vampire series called Shadowspawn. Here's a quote from his website describing it:
The Urban Fantasy series features "Shadowspawn", an ancient subspecies of Homo sapiens who formed the basis of legends about vampires and werewolves and have been secretly controlling the world for most of the 20th century.

I have never read Anne Rice before, but I have heard that she is pretty good. Is her novels really gory or are they just normal thrillers or mysteries? She is an older author right? Anyway, I will have to give it a shot one of these times. Maybe I can order a couple of books to see what they are like. I really don't want anything too freaky, but if it has a good story line, then I am ok.

Anne Rices writing is very descriptive. I wouldn't necessarily call it gory, but there are some cringe worthy sections. She's very sensual and loves creating beautiful characters. There's also a good bit of erotica and a touch of taboo.

I recommend the Immortal trilogy by Lauren Burd. I also recommend Awakened by Brenda K. Davis. Those are both kind of paranormal romances. If you're looking for something not so romantic I love the Cirque De Freak series.

I'm still going with the Guardians of Eternity series by Alexandra Ivy but am now adding The Raven by Sylvain Reynerd. That book totally swept me off my feet. There's a prequel called The Prince that you can breeze through easily. It's a novella.

I loved Lumley's Necroscope and most of Ann Rice's vampire books. I haven't read any since Lumley though. It's not about vampires, but one of my all time favorites is The Wolf's Hour by Robert R. McKinnon. I mean really, a book about a werewolf who kills Nazis. Um........yeahhhh

The Vampire genera is so wide open to interpretation. Sherrill Kenyon has an amazing series, the Dark-Hunters, which could technically be included in the vampire genera. Then there is Maggie Shayne, Lynsay Sands, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K Hamilton, Amanda Ashley, Katie MacAllister, and Rachel Caine. If you could narrow down what type of vampire novels you like, I could get more specific for you.

"The Silver Kiss" by Annette Curtis Klause. I read it for a book club. Vampire books are not my cup of tea but I enjoyed this book. It is well written, mysterious, and fast paced. I finished it in a day.

The Passage - Justin Cronin. It's a three book series with the third due out this year. I was engrossed! The second one took a bit of time to get into as the format was a bit different but still loved both.

freckles wrote:I just started reading a series that doesn't quite fall under vampire books. The first one is called "Dead Witch Walking" by Kim Harrison. The main character is a witch, but her roommate is a vampire. I'm reading the second book and I've really enjoyed them both so far. Action, witches & vampires, humour, and lots of random twists thrown in.
Kim Harrisons "Hollows" series is easily one of my favs. She does a great job of blending all the supernatural to one believable world. I've actually read it several times, all except the most recent and last book of the series since I'm not quite ready to say goodbye.

Sherrilyn Kenyon has a wonderful (and long) series called the Dark-Hunters. She has taken the vampire amd blended it with Greek mythology to make something new and incredibly compelling.
I also loved the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. They are much more tame than the Dark Hunters in terms of steamy scenes but well worth the read.
