This is an interesting question, as most people will remember the books they did not enjoy, for me that was "A Separate Piece" and " One Hundred Years of Solitude", much more that they would remember the books that they loved. I really had to stretch and think about "Still Life With Woodpecker". We got to pick the books we wanted to read in senior English.

I didn't really enjoy many that were assigned to me during high school. I did really enjoy Of Mice and Men and Diary of a Young Girl.
There weren't many memorable or popular books assigned to us. Assigned books I didn't enjoy included: Much Ado About Nothing, a very dense book about Mythology, Romeo & Juliet (so we could watch the Leonardo DiCaprio movie following reading the book), and Holes.
Luckily, my English teacher allowed us to read books we had chosen and write about them.

My favorite book that I read in high school has to be The Great Gatsby. I read it for the first time for fun in 9th grade for fun and it was the first book that I ever stayed up all night reading. I was instantly entranced by Fitzgerald’s long poetic phrases and I couldn’t put it down. And then when I read it in class in 11th grade and was able to recognize more of the symbolism I loved it even more.

The Lord of the Flies, The Outsiders, and The Scarlet Letter were my favorite assigned books.

As for my own independent reading, I enjoyed Dragonriders of Pern, Shakespeare, and the poems of Emily Dickinson.

I liked the goosebumps series. Probably the only series I will ever read but most of them all, I liked the play merchant of Venice by Shakespeare.

Unfortunately, I don't come from an English-speaking country, so the books I studied are not known to the people in this forum. However, during high school, I really enjoyed reading classics, and for a long time, my favorite author was George Orwell.

I was obsessed with the Fear Street series from R.L. Stine in middle years/high school. That could be why I am now weirdly into serial killer documentaries... also complete opposite side of the spectrum but I loved and continue to love everything by Nora Roberts.

Oh there were so many that I absolutely loved! I remember reading Christy by Catherine Marshall and it was such a great story. I might have to say that was my favorite. I read stories by Corrie Ten Boom as well that I remember really enjoying. I also loved most stories by Mark Twain as well.

The Great Gatsby was a good book. One that I remember reading that I did not care for was Death of A Traveling Salesman. Did you ever read it?
