Okay, I'm so not a fan of the Twilight series or Harlequin by Laurell K. Hamilton, I just didn't get into it; it was kind of scatterbrain writing...
And the former just seemed kind of like... prostitued vampire literature...
But whatever floats your boat I suppose!

I'd have to say Anne Rice is the vampire author, check her out.
As well as Kim Harrison's series The Hollows, it has vampires, pixies, demons, witches, elves, and the works w/a well explained story and simple explanation for everything.
Not exactly "simple," but things are explained clearly, everything is!
I found them addictive...

Laurell K Hamilton's books are good for the non prudes out there. If you get past the sex there are generally good story lines but you need to start at the begining of the series to understand the later books.

Keri Arthur has a series with a half vampire half were wolf in it which is good.

Sherilynn Kenyen dark hunter series is good the good and bad vamps - does have sex scenes though.

If you like teen books there is also the vampire academy series by Rachel mead.

I could go on but if you like vamp books I sugest you checkout the paranormal romance section in your local bookshop. Some keep them in the fantasy section.

My friend's favorite author, I was forced to read them all, haha.

They're enjoyable, but way too predictable.

It's the same storyline for all of the men with minor twists or deviations; Talon's Celtic, Zarek was a slave for that guy, Archeron's an Atlantian god...
But they all had a crummy life then saved people, and the girl who thought she was nobody got one of these "amazing" guys.

It just repeats, except for Julian, whose story is a tad different.

Yes they have the same base plot hence why its a series.

The fact is that they are to me a good read. The same could be said for a lot of serial writers they all have a formula for their books IMO.

I would also like to mention the Dark series by Christine Feehan. I have no idea if they are a good read as I am only just begining the first book now.

True, but they're just too similar for my exact taste, too predictable.
I still enjoy the writing style though.

Who's your favourite man, if you have one?

I would have to say Zarek he has been the one to overcome the most to me. A slave who is beaten down to nothing and to believe that to overcome and become who he does in the end is pretty cool in my eyes.

Have just begun reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. Silly/fun (mash up feel to it) read thus far.

I'm with Pappy, above. Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore is a very good book, with a treatment on how a real person might handle being turned into a vampire. :D
