I am currently looking for a new Sci-Fi novel or series, having just finished "the Fallen World" series (by Megan Crewe.)
My particular favourite series so far have been "The Maze Runner" and "The Hunger Games."

I also particularly enjoyed "Watership Down" since I have a love of animals but I also like how Richard Adams didn't sugarcoat what he wrote.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Try out the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series. I've read the entire series as Laurell K. Hamilton the author was writing them. I could hardly wait for the next book.

I have really enjoyed the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. If you've seen Legend of the Seeker, these are the books it was based on. That said, the book series is a LOT different from the TV series. They do get a little slow at one point but the last couple return to the same level of engagement as the beginning of the series. They definitely get quite dark and gritty but they also have a lot of light, humor, and a satisfying ending. The Law of Nines by the same author is also quite good. If only he'd actually publish the sequel now...

Sabaa Tahir's Ember in the ashes is a wonderful fantasy trilogy with deep and highly developed characters. Children of blood and bone is another good fantasy. If you need an old fantasy series, try anything by Terry Pratchett. It's very funny and clever

Le Guin, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and The Last King of Osten Ard book series by Tad Wiiliams.

Also, I can recommend you Dragon's Bane by Barbara Hambly and Silver Lover by Tanith Lee, but I don’t like the sequels of these books. It is better to read them as standalone.

Hmm. Dragonriders of Pern, anything by Tamora Pierce, Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series, Douglas Adams, Garth Nix and Terry Brooks are a great bunch to start with.

One of my recent favorites is The Themis Files series by Sylvain Neuvel. It's a series of 3 books, and the first was only released in 2016. The books are written as a series of files from the research (diary entries, emails, memos, interviews, etc). It's difficult to say too much about these without spoiling the story, but the premise is that our main character, Rose, discovers an unusual giant metal hand as a child, and she is reconnected with it as an adult. She is a physicist leading a research team to determine where it came from, and what it means. And from there, things really start to get crazy. This series reminds me of the Maze Runner in some ways - our characters are confused, and as the story goes on we learn more and more about the reality of the situation. Much like Watership Down, there is not sugar coating.

The Forever War by Joe Hadelman and Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson are good options.

Since particular favorites of the OP were The Maze Runner and Hunger Games, I am going suggest the Divergent series, on the off chance you have not already read it. In the end, I liked it better than that Hunger Games, though both series really ended up being deep studies of what PTSD does to people.

You might also really enjoy the Book of Ember series by Jeanne DePrau. The first book in the series got made into a movie.

And then, if you're willing to look a little beyond YA fantasy (and I get if you're not, some of the best fantasy out there right now is YA), I HIGHLY recommend NK Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy. It's kind of like Katnis got to escape to somewhere no one knew who she was and start a family, and then, when was middle aged and thought she was done, the world fell apart again.

I suggest you go for 30th century series. I enjoyed it a lot and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
