My nephews want to start learning to read with their Aunty since that's what I spend most of my time doing. One problem, I read harlequin blaze. So I would appreciate some suggestions for good kid friendly romance books. (I tried to convince them they wouldn't like romance, they are adamant about reading MY books)

Every read the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys super-mysteries? The sexual tension was pretty palpable between Nancy and Frank Hardy...no real denouement, if you get my drift.

I'm sure some of those strange Amish romance novels my library insists on stocking are rated PG.

Get The Hunger Games and tuck it in the middle of your stack of books and then when they visit pretend to just pull it out at random from all your books. Deception can be very useful especially with nephews and nieces - I'm a veteran, I've got nine of them.

If I Stay and Where She Went by Gayle Forman. The Fairy Tale Romance series by Melanie Dickerson.

Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welsh has romance, but it's not the main focus of the book. Stardust by Neil Gaiman.

There’s a series by Dee Henderson called The O’Malley Series that has romance and action/suspense. You might give that a try. They’re completely clean, too.

I loved reading Mara, Daughter of the Nile when I was a kid.

The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers. My daughter recommended it to me. Kid safe romance, definitely suspense.

You might also try the Mortal Instruments series by Philip Reeve. I did not see the recent movie made of the first book, but the previews looked very little like the story the actual book told. There's definitely some romance in there, but it is also high adventure in a world that is pretty engaging.

Dodger by Terry Pratchett is pretty good. It's historical fiction and the romance is more of a subplot, but it's one I could see boys enjoying. I hear Terry Pratchett's other books are very good for young adults but Dodger is the only one I've read so far.
